Upon death, it is possible for a mortal's essence ("soul") to travel to other dimensions. Whether this happens, and where it ends up, depends on many different factors.

Sometimes it is possible for the person's essence to return, either to their old body or a new one or no body at all. For example, Lightray was resurrected in this way. (However, not all "resurrections" work like this... for example, see Spirit.)
