Formerly the grounds of a large, privately owned estate, this broad swathe of parkland has since been acquired by the city and converted to public use. Set directly by the shore of a creek flowing into Chesapeake bay, the park's facilities include a number of sporting fields (for soccer, baseball, field hockey and lacrosse), picnic areas, a substantial flower garden, tracks for both walking and biking that pass through the extensive wood, and a central lake (actually part of thr creek) that is home to wide array of native water fowl.

The park is a popular venue for family outings, sporting contests, nature-lovers, joggers, cyclists, and people who simply enjoy the outdoors. It is carefully overseen and maintained by a small but dedicated corps of rangers who patrol the grounds regularly.
