Description
As Darnell: You see a Black man, in excellent physical shape. Darnell's blessed with the frame of an athlete. He stands at roughly six foot six, with a sturdy build: thick neck, broad chest and shoulders, tapering down to a slim waist. While he appears to be strong, he's not lumbering; he carries his weight easily, and he's fairly light on his feet.
Darnell's features are unremarkable - not particularly handsome or ugly. His complexion falls on the lighter side of the spectrum of Black skin, and his eyes are a striking shade of light brown. His faces shows some wrinkles and worry lines and hints at his age - late thirties to early forties. The black curls of his hair are cut short, with the hairline punctuated by a distinct widow's peak.
As Eel: You see a masked man in a gray-black costume. He's athletic, standing roughly six and a half feet tall, with a muscular build. His clothing is form-fitting, with a texture similar to that of a wetsuit, and with seams where the boots and gloves end. A yellow stripe starts at the forehead of the costume and runs over the top of the head and down the spine of the suit. The same color is used for the 'E' on his chest. His mask doesn't cover the his mouth and chin -- you can see that he's cleanshaven and darkskinned. A pair of goggles complete his costume.
Origin
Darnell J. Watts was an All-American football player and star of the CBSU team. Poised to leave college in his junior year for a lucrative professional contract, Darnell's young life was a Cinderella story: a local kid from the wrong side of the tracks makes good. All was going well until he tested positive as being a mutant.
Darnell has an increased metabolism that produces excess energy in the form of electricity. He can produce enough juice to form an electric force field around himself. Also, his stamina and constitution are superhuman. These advantages disqualified him from playing professional football.
Deprived of the prospect of the million dollar contract, Darnell turned to supervillainy, trying to steal the money that he felt the world owed him. His plans were simple and his inexperience led him to be defeated on a number of occasions by the police and by heros. He always managed to slip away from the authorities, however.
Nighthawk was a veteran villain who took Darnell under his wing after they both tried to heist the same diamond. They became partners, and soon, Darnell was able take advantage of the 'hawk's experience. Under his guidance, he expanded his range of powers. It was while they were working together that Nighthawk introduced Darnell to Dr. Negative. electricity. He can produce enough juice to form an electric force field around himself. It was while they were working together that Nighthawk introduced Darnell to Dr. Negative.
Negative had a plan to open a portal to the Negative Dimension in Colonial Bay to strengthen his powers. When Darnell learned that the portal would devastate the city, he turned on the Doctor and was instrumental in helping the heroes save the day. As a result for his help, Darnell received a lighter sentence. It's now fifteen years later and Darnell is out of prison and looking to set his life straight.
Powers
Darnell was born with the ability to generate large amounts of electricity from his body, which he can apply in various ways. He can zap a normal person unconscious with a single touch and can create a defensive force field. Darnell can decrease the friction of his force field at will, allowing him to slip out of grabs and glide down the street like a speedskater.
Personality
Darnell is a tough-guy - he tries to hide his feelings behind a crass sense of humor. He can't always control his temper though. He's a bit older and wiser; the sorts of things that get under his skin have changed, but his anger will still get the better of him from time to time.
Relations
During his criminal career, The Eel was a henchman of Dr. Negative, and he partnered with Nighthawk. After his release, he still considered Nighthawk a friend, until Nighthawk tried to frame him for a theft during the Once a Con... plot.
Darnell has joined the team and is close to its members, particularly Dancing Coyote and Shoro. He grudgingly respects Eleven, and is also friends with Barricade.
History
Darnell was released from jail in November of 2055 and now lives in Colonial Bay.
