& magic -------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events]-------------------------- Magic is a common origin in various comics' worlds and CM is no exception. Given that the subject of magic is such a VAST topic to go into, we here at CM have broken it into the following event files: Topic Description WORKINGS How magic works here, and hints for playing a mage. GROUPS Magical Organizations here on CM DIMENSIONS Where am I? How did I get here? MAGES A bit on mages, and the roles on CM SUPERNATURAL Vampires, Werewolves, etc To see more information on a topic, type EVENTS MAGIC <topic> ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
& magic workings -------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events]-------------------------- Magic is a unique force in the world of CM. It can cover MANY different applications and uses, from a blast of freezing cold, to a fireball, to healing a person, to opening a gate to another world. We understand that magic is a rather....undefined force, and would like to ask all players to make it a point to RP the style of their magic. Are you a voodoo witch doctor, that animates the dead? Then don't buy a fireball spell:). Are you a worker of the elemental forces of nature? Then shy away from Necromancy and dimensional travel spells. Also, when playing a mage, don't forget the Power Limitations "Incantation" and "Gestures". They add flavor to a spell caster, and while not required, make sense for the Genre. Perhaps your magic comes from a item? Use the focus limitation for that. Other hints include joining an organization, or forming one of your own. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
& magic mages -------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events]-------------------------- Mages can have many concepts on CM, from advisor, to faceless evil. A rule of thumb when deciding what niche your mage will fall into is to look at the STYLE of magic he uses. Another way to get a feel for what you want to do is to page the staff and ask them how they feel about it. Reading old comics such as Doctor Strange, Hellstorm, and Books of Magic help as well. There are 3 easily defined classes of mage. 1. White Magi: They work for the common good of the people, often putting themselves on the line to save or benefit others. 2. Gray magi: Or neutrals. They usually study magic for the sake of the knowledge. They may intervene on the behalf of others, or may just as readily strike down White and Black Magi alike. Always wild cards, gray magi tend to be self-absorbed. 3. Black Magi: The dark ones. Most Black Magi have gained their powers through a treaty with an entity or other extra-dimensional being. Still others have learned the hard way through years of training and study. One common thread unites all both types. They lust for forbidden power, and the ability to exert it over the common man. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
& magic groups -------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events ]-------------------------- Some of the magical groups active on champions mush are as follows. Demon: A group of apparently, techo-wizards, that champion the cause of their dark lords re-entering the world. The Lodge: A group of Mages that see control of mortal institutions as essential as mastering the arcane arts. They seek control of the world, if only to be it's shepards. The Cabal: A sub-group of Demon whose apparent goal is the destruction of it's parent organzation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
& magic dimensions -------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events ]-------------------------- The only dimesions that are currently known about in the CM world are the Dream dimesion and the Shadow realm along with the elemental realms. The Dream dimesnion is the place where mortals take their souls to dream when they sleep. The Shadow realm on the other hand seems to be where nightmares and horrible entities come from. The elemental realms include earth, wind, fire, water, thunder, lightning, plant, and light. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
& supernatural & mythos -------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events ]-------------------------- Mythological and Supernatural Creatures: Creatures such as vampires, werewolves, etc. do exist in the CM universe. However, each one is a unique individual. There is no parallel secret civilization of supernatural/mythological creatures. This means there are no ancient vampire clans, werewolf packs and so on. Each such creature is simply a superhuman/alien/supernatural entity, just like any other super powered character. However, throughout history certain superhuman abilities have become associated with certain myths. So any superhuman that is supernaturally strong with mental powers, a dependence on blood and an aversion to sunlight tends to get called a 'vampire'. Similarly shapeshiftinig supers that turn into large animal forms get identified as 'lycanthropes'. The important point is that each such creature has a unique origin and may or may not exhibit the various powers and weakness popularized in various myths and legends. They may be from another dimension, suffering from a family curse, been bitten by a radioactive wolf or whatever. In the eyes of the law and society as a whole, they are judged just like any other superhuman. If they act heroic, they are considered heroes, if they act villainous and embrace their darker 'mythic' elements, they are considered villains. Still have questions on Supernaturals and Mythical creatures? See EVENTS SUPERNATURAL FAQ for more info ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
& supernatural faq & mythos faq & sn faq ---------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events ]-------------------------- This FAQ is here to further the understanding about what vampires and other mythologicals are in the CM universe. First of all, forget all your World of Darkness/Anne Rice and other movie and novel sources. There are no secret societies of vampires. There are no werewolf packs. There are no secret vampire masters that really run everything. So what are vampires/werewolves/pixies/dragons/smurfs/whatevers? 1) Are all vampires the same? Each one is a unique case. One 'vampire' may have been bitten by another superhuman with a transformation attack. Another may have been cursed by witch. Another may have made a pact with an extradimensional enitity. Yet another may have been infected with a technovirus that reconfigured their metabolism. 2) So what makes a person a vampire? Self identification for the most part, and a set of powers that overlap with the mythological picture of a vampire. So if you have superhuman strength and agility and mind control but dress like a matador and call yourself Captain Cassanova, you're not a vampire. But if you dressed like a stereotypical goth-dude and called yourself Alucard Bloodcaller, most folks would think you were a vampire, even if you were not. 3) So how are they different from any other superhuman? The short answer is -- there is no difference. The longer answer is, they effectively have a 0 point Reputation disad "Thought of as a mythological vampire" which is usually good for a negative opinion from your average normal. Of course, if you're a "leprechaun" instead of a "vampire", people might think better of you, or at least pester you about your pot o' gold. See EVENTS SUPERNATURAL FAQ 2 for more info ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
& supernatural faq 2 & mythos faq 2 & sn faq 2 -----------------------------[ Champions MUSH Events ]------------------------ 4) Vampires aren't people are they? I can kill them right? "Vampires" are just as much people as any other superhuman. And they are as "alive" as any other superhuman (though depending on Physical Lims, may not be able to do everything a normal could, but that doesn't make them less "alive".) 5) But immortal mindcontrolling bloodsuckers could take over the world! I need to be able to kill them, for the greater good! Well, duh. That could be said about any superhuman from Bob the Vampire to Mechanon to Doctor Destroyer. You are the (mostly) good guys. You find another way, or accept that the law and prison, while imperfect are the tools that society has to deal with such menaces. 6) Well darnit, isn't there anyone I can kill? Sure. Non-sentient robots, zombies, golems, giant monsters named Mike, bunny rabbits, etc. Basically if its sentient, you no kill'em (well, within the limits of Moderate/Strong/Total CvK). 7) Ok, fine. But what about that Vampire Dude PC who's making all sorts of wild claims about Master Vampires and Vampire Clans and Vampire Credit Unions? He's deluded, mistaken, or lying, or all of the above. ICly, people can believe whatever they like. 8) Well, if I can believe whatever I like, why can't I put a cap in his skinny goth hindquarters? Because the world is full of weird people, from, aliens to robots to "vampires", so anyone that has a CvK (and everyone has at least CvK: Moderate) has an expansive enough definition of "alive" to include anyone that's sentient. 9) *pout* Aren't you telling me how to play my character? Well, yes. That's what theme and world rules do. If this was a WoD MUSH and you wanted to play a Vampire who was really an alien from the planet Yogurtia, you'd get told you couldn't play that too. We're a superhero MUSH, so by definition, you have to play a superhero (or neutral), as defined by the MUSH setting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
