"The Fifth Annual American Dream Charity Golf Tournament..." That's way the banners read, at least. It's a day-long golf event where some of Colonial Bays wealthy and famous rub elbows, drink, mingle, and play a little golf. The attendees are a mix of Television stars, athletes, business people, and politicians -- not the least of which is Clayton "Clay" Wilson, the founder of the event. He's in attendance, with his wife Sandra...

It's the end of the day of golfing, and the attendees have retired to an outdoor area behind the clubhouse. Most people are gathered near the bar, a set up under a white canopy closest to the back of teh clubhouse. Others have clustered in their little groups in this outdoor area.

Jackie has arrived by hired car and will be mingling and chatting, moving from group to group making her presence known but not staying long in any one place. Generally feeling like a fish out of water. But this is part of her job in practical terms, even if written in the contact, and she'll do it as best she can.

"... and none of these other people here understand what it's like..." says an energetic twenty-something man, with model looks, who's stopped to talk with Jackie. "What is it to face danger in the eye ad not blink. I think I do, with the preparation I'm doing for my next role. And I'm sure that you do too, from your experience."

Beyond him, Clayton Wilson is holding court. He and a few other gentlemen have taken to smoking cigars while they chat.

Jackie smiles at the self-centered idiot, "Very true." she says, trying to remember if she knows a name to go with this face. A media personality of some kind obviously, film star perhaps?

Jackie employs conversation tactic #1, get media stars talking about themselves. They'll do it for ages. "If it's not a breach of confidentiality can I ask what you're working on now?"

The young man continues with the small talk. "Do you know how I do it? I mean obviously I'm not flying and bulletproof..." He pauses to tap his temple. "Being super is all about a mindset..." He smiles at Jackie's question. "Well really I shouldn't talk about it..." He pauses before continuing. "Imagine City By the Bay -- with superpowers. Powerful drama and intense action."

Jackie nods, filling in her end of the monologue.

The young man is about to continue about his project...

"Well, Sheeeooooot." Clayton Wilson's chuckles, speaking with a bit of a Southern drawl. He's a Black man in his fifties, dressed in a linen suit for the affair. He's a light skinned, with a receding hairline and a moustache and a warm smile. "The Wasp... Come on over here."

Jackie nods and smiles to the State Senator. "Sen. Wilson. Thank you for the invitation. Quite a turn out this year."

Wilson's circle turns towards The Wasp, generally nodding in welcome. It's three others - a thirty something Asian man, a graying white man in his sixties, and a Black man who has the build of a football player.

Jackie looks to the young man, "Excuse me, I need to go and say thank you to my host. I hope we can continue our conversation later." Then she makes her way over the the Senator's group. "Good evening, gentlemen."

Wilson takes a puff from his cigar, holding the smoke before blowing it into the air. "Please, call me Clay. With what you've done for my family it only seems right." He nods to the Wasp. "This event has humble beginning, but now... it feels good to start something like this and to see it grow."

Jackie nods.

"Gentlemen," Clay says, "Allow me to introduce Wasp. She helped rescue my boy from a kidnapper. Wasp, this is David Lau -- real estate developer. Nathan Broome -- headmaster over at the Bayside Academy. Dwight MacNeil - he's a football star here. Plays for the team in Washington."

David nods to Jackie. "Nice to meet you." He extends a hand.

Jackie nods to each as they are introduced and shakes hands. "A pleasure to meet you all. One of my senior staff has a daughter at your Academy, Mr Broone. He speaks highly of the establishment." She turns to Dwight MacNeil, "I'm a fan of yours. Can we hope for a return visit one year for your Summer Camp?"

It's the end of the day of golfing, and the attendees have retired to an outdoor area behind the clubhouse. Most people are gathered near the bar, a set up under a white canopy closest to the back of teh clubhouse. Others have clustered in their little groups in this outdoor area.

Jace is walking about the club members, trying to sneak some free sodas, while looking whom is around.

Nathan Broome accepts the compliment with a smile. "Yes. Thank you. And bravo to you. Heroes like you are a credit to the city and inspiration for my students."

Jackie's talking with a group of gentlemen, one of whom happens to be Clayton Wilson.

Jace moves over to Jackie and waves, listening quietly and wondering whom this guy is.

Dwight MacNeil says, "Sure. I don't speak for the brass, but all the players I talked to loved working out here."

Jace says, "It is a great town..."

Jace opens his bogarted soda and takes a long drink.

Clay says, "Hey, man, we'd love to have you guys back here."

Jace says, "Oh? Well its good to be here..."

Jace thinks . o O (I wonder who i am talking too...and who he thinks I am...)

Jace grins a bit out of place

Clayton Wilson and Dwight MacNeil look over to Jace. There's an awkward pause in the conversation for a moment.

Jace coughs loudly and begins anewed, "Nice day for golf, isnt it?"

Nathan Broome a slim, gray-haired man in Clay's circle looks at Jace curiously, perhaps recognizing him.

Clayton Wilson laughs, "Beautiful day. Didn't help my stroke any though..."

Jace chuckles a bit..weakly.."Right!"

Jace starts drinking on his soda...hard...

Clayton Wilson says, "Excuse me for a moment, gentlemen, I was hoping to have a word with the Wasp." He looks to Jackie and nods, indicating a direction back towards the clubhouse.

Jace turns to Nathan.." So..you golfing this year..?"

Jackie nods to the others in the group and walks with the Senator. "Of course, Senator."

In Clay's circle of friends there's a thirty-something Asian man. He looks over to Jace and asks, "So, what do you do?"

Olivia is standing off to the side a little, mostly more watching than anything. She doesn't know much about golf though she has seen it played a few times. She wasn't even sure why she was invited, something about the Space Shuttle, but then oh well. She smiles and nods politely to most people whom look at her.

Clay talks as he walks, leading the way back inside. "Jackie... mind if I call you Jackie? I can't thank you enough for what you've done."

Jace hrmms and tries to think of something good..."IT...just fresh from school..computer programming and all of that.."

Nathan Broome says, "He's a student, I think. At least the last that I've heard. Over at Colonial Heights High School."

Jackie grins, "I much prefer Jackie to Wasp. As for your son's incident I wasn't the only hero on the scene. I'm delighted we were able to help."

Jace says, "Well yea....but I am going into IT...."

Olivia shakes her head, skin shimmering in the light. She stretches a bit, running a hand through her hair, and adjusting her sunglasses. She smiles but still doesn't say anything.

Jace says, "Well...I have to mingle a bit...it was good to meet you.."

A young man approaches Olivia. He's in his twenties with model-good looks. He flashes a smile. "Hey there... I'm looking to talk so someone, and I think that you might be the only one here who can understand..."

Jace turns about and starts trying to push his way through the crowd...

Olivia cocks her head to the side as she looks at the young man, "The only one that can understand? What may I do for you?" she asks as she looks him over curiously, a hint of appraisal in her gaze as well.

Clay says, "Lorelei's on the west coast, or else I'd have invited her too. Now, I was to let you know that you've got a friend in me. I'm a little old-fashioned - I believe in taking care of my friends. I have a few friends on the Hill, and I'll tell them what you've done.

The young man says to Olivia. "Here we have politicians, athletes, businessmen... I don't think any of them understand what it's like."

Victor arrives on scene, coming from an old car...(1930's later model). He steps out with a cigar lit leaning on his can heavily. He walks into the crowd, adjusting his monicle.

Clay adds, "Maybe things can be a bit easier, come budget time next year."

Olivia nods as she listens to the young man, "What, what's like?" she asks softly, still not sure what he is talking about, but then no one has ever accused her of being the brightest fish in the barrell.

Victor moves into the crowd, looking for those whom are most important, seeking them out with a trained-eye

"What's it's like to stare danger in the eye and not blink." The young man says. "I think that I do with the work I'm doing for my next role. And of course, you do as well."

Jackie says, "That's very gracious of you, Senator. It's always good to have friends. Any hero in the city would have done the same if he or she had been on the scene. It's the same with the MSAR team. We have a few full time metas on staff but at any specific incident the majority of the meta assistance comes from citizens who have downed tools to give aid in the traditional American fashion. A tradition stretching back to the West and the citizen posses. Men who left their stores and bunkhouses to ride with a sheriff or marshall."

Olivia cocks her head to the side and glances around a little, "Well, yes, but it is easy to stare danger in the eye when one has lived as long as I have." she grins as she says it. Despite everything, she still looks about 18, maybe 19.

Victor moves over toward Natham Broome and gives a slight bow, "Wunsche, Herr Broome"

Clayton smiles, "The days of the old west are long gone, replaced by a lot of bureaucracy and red tape. The spirit still exists, though. And if you manage to find people with the similar spirit, you can really go far." He stops to puff on his cigar.

Nathan Broome smiles. "Herr Doctor... Welcome." He offered his hand for a shake. "The donation that you've made to our new science center will make a big difference."

Jackie nods in wry agreement, recollecting the nightmare task she had at first with the red tape at FEMA.

Victor smiles and nods to Mr. Broome, "Zi believe very highly in education, Zi vondered if perhaps zi might have a vord with you. If vou have a moment.."

The young actor nods to Olivia. "It may come naturally to you, but me, I'm not bulletproof and super strong. But I think I've achieved the proper mindset -- being a super is a state of mind."

Nathan says, "Certainly... If you'll excuse use gentlemen," he says to his other companions. He returns his gaze to Victor. "If you'll follow me..." he begins to head to a quieter patch of the lawn.

Victor nods following Nathan onto the grass, reaching into his smoking jacket and offers Nathan a cigar tube. "Cigar?"

Clay puffs on his cigar, looking away for a moment, thinking, before turning to Jackie. "So Jackie... what's this nonsense about my son being mixed up in drugs?"

Nathan says, "Thank you... I've got this one young student that I think you'd like to meet." He takes the cigar. "Brilliant, but he needs molding."

Victor smiles happily, "Vell, zi vould be most eager to meet vith him." Hands Nathan a cutter and lites a match for him, "Now zhen...zi have zomething zi need to zpeak vith vou about. I'm afraid zhis izn't vone of those happy topicz about reshaping zhey vorld az we often have. Much more grave, zi fear"

Nathan Broome looks puzzled, but he nods. "What is it?"

Victor says, "Zi am zure vou have heard of mich altercation at the local medicine tent. Pesky Polizei stopped me before zi vould look into it. Zi am afraid for zhis city. There zi a dangerous virus zhat could turn into an epidemic. However, zi believe they will not listen to mich az zi have a bit of a history...zhey may listen to reazon from vou i believe."

Jackie turns to face the Senator, "There's a new drug being sold on the streets of the city. It confers temporary and uncontrolled meta abilities to the users. One such user was responsible for the explosion and fire on the city Maglev a week or two ago. He informed me that the person who sold him the pills was named Jermaine Wilson. Now, Senator, I'm sure you are aware that the kidnapper of your son was himself carrying identification papers with that name. I cannot speak regarding any police investigations but it is entirely possible that one or more copies of that identification are being used by the person or persons supplying the pills. After all, no police officers is going to give any unreasonable hassle to someone identifiying themselves as your son. You are too well known and popular for that. Which makes such identification useful to such criminals. That's the story as I know it. Oh, I'll add that your son did not strike me as the kind of person who would give out his real name *if* he was dealing in drugs so I believe he's almost certainly an unfortunate victim in all of this.

Nathan says, "Victor... I'm not sure what I can do... you've managed to make powerful people quite nervous over the years."

Victor nods, "Zi can underztand, zall i can ask iz zat vou try. I believe zhis to be the first of much larger planz. Of courze i can not prove it az zuch. However...for now, pleaze let uz go back to zey party. I don't vish to ruin vour time here."

Clay Wilson nods slowly. "So you think that it's someone posing as my son... this is all a case of identity theft?"

Victor takes a long drag off his cigar, looking through the crowd once more.

Nathan nods. "Victor... I'll see what I can do, alright? If the virus really is this much of a threat, maybe they'll begin to research at the university. Then I might be able to get you in, bit it would be at the university, under their terms... I'm not promising anything, but I'll inquire about it."

Victor smiles and nods, "Zhis iz all I can ever ask mich friend, now...lets return to zhey party"

Jackie nods, "In as much as I have given it any thought, yes Senator, that is my belief. The only thing I consider curious is why the kidnapper picked on your son as a attempted robbery victim? But determining the motivations of criminals requires a better mind than mine. I'm sure the police have been questioning the kidnapper. They will know more than I."

Victor begins walking at into the crowd, looking for someone who is serving drinks, "Zo..tell me more about zhis ztudent"

Nathan says, "His name is Nils Sunderland..."

Victor says, "Nils? Zi haven't heard zat name in quite zome time. Theze dayz no one uses the classicz. Vhat iz he most interested in?"

Clay nods, "Thanks Jackie." He puffs on his cigar. "I suppose I should get back to the party. Sandra'll be wondering where I've gotten to..."

Nathan says, "Robotics. His efforts this far have been a little... misguided."

Victor says, "Robotics? Most interezting...vell perhapzen in the up coming week zi can make arrangments to meet vith him. Ztear him back on track"

Jackie nods and smiles, "I don't think there is anything to worry about, Senator."
