Each of the heroes were contacted directly by State Senator Clay Wilson. He had a favor to ask, and wanted to talk in person. The meeting place? Out on Sandy Bottom Island, in a section close to the old prison that's a little secluded.
Jackie arrives by Maglev and is walking to the arranged meeting point in good time for the appointment.
Lorelei, too, arrives by Maglev and walks - though she can drive now she lacks a car, and trying to borrow one might been the agency insisting on Cliff coming.
Olivia arrives just after the others still not knowing the City that well and having taken the wrong Maglev at first. She does make it and descends just after the others.
A black towncar arrives shortly after the heroes do, and Clay Wilson appears from within it. There's someone else in the back seat with him, but that person's identity is hard to guess as Clay closes teh door behind him.
Virginia State Senator Clay Wilson. He's a Black man in his fifties, typically well-dressed in conversative fashions. He's light skinned, with a receding hairline and a moustache and a warm smile. He stands about five feet eight inches tall with a portly build.
Clay Wilson walks towards Lorelei, Olivia, and Jackie. He opens his arms as he approaches. "Hello.. it's a fine day, isn't it." He speaks with his customary drawl.
Lorelei smiles politely and says "Hello," but is inclined to leave the talking to Jackie - after all an established hero before she even came to Colonial Bay.
Jackie turns towards the voice and only now notices the presence of Lorelei and Olivia, "Good afternoon Senator Clay, Lorelei, Olivia."
Lorelei says hello to the others too.
Clay smiles and points a finger at Lorelei. "You..." he says, "Are being harder to get a hold of, young lady. I'm hoping that they've been treating you alright in Hollywood?" He overs his hand for a handshake. "Don't you forget that Virginia has a thriving film industry too." He nods.
Olivia dips her head and nods to Clay and smiles a little, "A pleasure." she says but those are the only words she says at the moment.
Lorelei smiles. "I haven't moved out there. And it's hardly my fault if Hollywood was quicler to offer me a role."
Clay nods. "Well, we'll see what we can do about that... It'd be a shame if we let them steal you away from your home." He turn to Jackie. "Jackie, good to see you again. How are you?"
Jackie smiles, "Fine thank you Senator. The office is ticking over nicely and we're had little to do for the last week." She chuckles, "Not something I should be saying in case you decide to cut back on funding but every day we're quiet in the office is a day when no major disasters have occured."
Olivia stretches a little and folds her hands behind her back as she looks around and takes the others in.
Clay chuckles too. "Yes, let's hope things stay that way, for all our sakes." Then he turns to Olivia...
Clay looks over to Olivia. "And you must be Diamond. It's a pleasure to make your acquiantance. Thank you for coming out to that little party we threw the other week. I apologize for not making it over to say hello in person... those kinds of events can become a little buys."
Olivia nods, "It is my pleasure," she says and smiles a bit, "Olivia Diamond." she adds.
"Call me Clay..." he says.
Lorelei says, "Party?"
Olivia nods, "Of course Clay." she says and then shrugs a bit.
Clay nods to Lorelei, "A little fundraiser that I host every year, we would have loved to have you, Lorelei, but I reckon that you were out of town."
"I can't thank you all enough for what you've done for me and my son in the past," Clay says, "And it burdens me to have to come to you for your help another time. I've got a sticky situation that I need some help with, a situation that requires some discretion."
Lorelei says, "Are you sure you want me then? I'm hardly low-profile these days."
Jackie listens to Lorelei while wondering what the good Senator has in mind.
Olivia nods, but waits and listens.
Clay says, "Well, as a public figure, I need to make sure that the people want get distracted with petty issues that would distract them from the larger agenda..."
He continues, "I need some people who can check into a few matters with that issue in mind."
Lorelei nods.
Jackie nods also.
Olivia nods, "What matters would that be?" she asks as she looks at him and then over at the others.
Clay sighs, "My son's gotten himself into some trouble, and I need to help out without either of us ending up on the front page tomorrow."
Lorelei says, "What sort of trouble?"
Clay raises his hand as he says, "I'll have my boy tell you everything about it, but first, I'd have to have your word as heroes that you'll keep it quiet. I promise you -- he's as much a victim in this as anybody."
Olivia nods, "Provided it doesn't hurt any innocent people, I have no problem keeping it quiet." she says and glances at the others.
Lorelei says, "Likewise."
Jackie looks Clay straight in the eyes, "Senator, Olivia has taken the words from my mouth."
Clay nods, looking each of the heroes in the eyes, in turn. "Alright then... Good." He nods his head towards the direction of the car. "He's this way."
Lorelei thinks . o O (I wonder....)
Olivia nods and moves to follow Claw.
Jackie follows Clay glancing at Lorelei and Olivia as if to say.. what are we getting ourselves into?
Lorelei follows too.
Angstrom opens the door of the car. Inside the back seat, Jermaine Wilson is sitting down. He looks about the same as before, save for the fact that he's wearing thick, pitch-black glasses over his eyes. He looks over as the door opens. "Dad... that you?"
Clay Wilson opens the door of the car. Inside the back seat, Jermaine Wilson is sitting down. He looks about the same as before, save for the fact that he's wearing thick, pitch-black glasses over his eyes. He looks over as the door opens. "Dad... that you?"
Lorelei says, "What happened?"
Clay says, "Yeah, J... I'm here with Lorelei, Wasp, and Diamond. Tell them about the guy who did this to you..."
Jermaine hesitates, until Clay says, "It's alright, J..."
Jermaine Wilson turns in Lorelei's direction. "Last night... I was heading into the office late. I thought I heard someone else there with me, but before I could spot him, there was a bright, white light -- and I couldn't see..."
Lorelei frowns. "You didn't see him at all? Can you tell anything else about him? Did you hear anything, or even smell?"
"Then he knocked me down and tied me up... The whole time there was the light... I couldn't see anything. I could only hear him. He kept on asking me questions about the Captain, like how did I get in touch with him, where we would meet."
Lorelei says, "Do you know who he meant?"
Clay Wilson comments grimly, "Doctors said that the light damaged his optic nerves. His vision will return, but it'll take a while."
Jermaine says, "Yeah... Captain Jack... That wasn't his name, but that's what we all called him..."
Olivia nods, and cocks her head to the side as she listens.
Lorelei nods to Clay and continues listening to Jermain.
"He... he was the guy I got the X from."
Jackie says, "The pills?"
Lorelei thinks . o O (Darn - was I right after all?)
Jermaine nods turning in Jackie's general direction. "Right... X... X-Factor, Meta-X... he was the only one in town who had a supply."
Lorelei says, "Was?"
Olivia purses her lips a bit and looks at the others and then back.
"Well, the man who blinded me... I told him how I got in touch with the Captain, where I usually met him. I don't that he just wanted to chat with the guy."
Lorelei says, "How long ago was that? And what did you tell him?"
Jermaine says, "That was last night, I gave him the phone number I called him at to re-up... to get more pills. We usually met at Lotus, that night club."
Jackie says, "You are a very lucky man, Jermaine. Lucky to be alive. Keeping you quiet by killing you was an option I'm surprised the assailant didn't take. Lucky to have a father who's willing to stand by you despite the mess you have gotten yourself in. Have you tried calling the phone number?"
"Lucky? Yeah you're right..." Jermaine says, with a sigh. "No I didn't call. We thought it'd be best if I didn't have any more contact with the Captain."
Lorelei says, "Can you tell us what the Captain looks like?"
Jermaine nods, "Yeah... forties, white. Black hair, going gray... Clean shaved. He had some kind of tattoo on his right arm -- I think he was in the army, from the tat and how his people would call him 'sir', sometimes.
Lorelei says, "What sort of time did he usually arrange to meet, or wasn't there a pattern?"
"Usually at the night time, during club hours. He was a regular at one of the tables and he had access to a back room where you'd get the pills."
Olivia shrugs and let's the other two do the talking, she is more the muscle.
Lorelei says, "So a fair chance this guy will have tried to arrange a meeting for tonight...."
Jackie says, "What time last night did the attack on you take place?"
"It was late, I was coming back from a party when I stopped by my office and got attacked -- two, maybe three in the morning."
Jackie nods to Lorelei and Olivia, "Too late for the attacker to go to the club last night. Tonight is the most likely time." She looks back at Jermaine, "You mentioned Captain Jack's men. How many were usually at the club with him?"
"It depends... maybe four at first, but I think they started adding more security, I think they were drawing attention from some of the other gangs."
Nobody says, "Last time it was six.""
Jackie exchanges glances with the other heroes in the car before asking Jermaine, "Did your attacker ask the same questions about how many were with Captain Jack?"
Jermaine says, "Yeah... and I told him the same thing."
Lorelei says, "Sounds like a visit to the Lotus is in order. Anything we should know about the club?"
"Just that's it's one of the toughest places to get into in the city.
Lorelei says, "Hm. Tough how?"
"You have to know somebody or be somebody to get in." Jermaine says.
Jackie is looking worried, "Yes, whether it's fire and damage insurance is paid up to date. If the person who attacked the Senator's son has hostile intent and is willing to go head to head with at least six ex military security types we could be looking at a major incident. Getting in isn't a problem though."
The senior Wilson looks over at Jackie. "Is there anything else that you need to know?"
Lorelei nods. "Well, I'd *hoped* to get in there quietly ahead of time. By the sounds of it they aren't likely to unless I go as myself, which defeats the 'quietly' end of things.
Clay says, "We've already talked about my main concern. You do what you need to do."
Lorelei nods.
Jackie nods, "Lots. Eventually. But our first priority ought to be preventing a major incident at one of the city's top clubs. And keeping Jermaine's name out of this whole incident as far as the media are concerned. Senator, you do realise your son's part will become known when Captain Jack goes on trial. I'd reccommend that he goes to the police volunteerily. I assume you have some friends in city hall that can help to keep this under wraps."
Clay Wilson says to Jackie. "I've got people on it."
Clay Wilson says, "Ladies, thank you for your time... I've got some business I need to take care of downtown."
Lorelei says, "Good day then."
Jackie nods, "And we have business to take care of at a night club. Lorelei. we'll need a couple more at least. Can you suggest any names?"
Lorelei says, "A couple more...?"
Jackie nods, "Depends on who but I'd be comfortable with a couple of extra people on hand."
Lorelei says, "Well, I've been a bit out of touch lately, but we can call the usual suspects and see who's available."
Clay Wilson steps into the town car. He drives off with his friends.
Jackie says, "I'll give Starguard a call, see if they have anyone on hand. I've been out of touch too."
Lorelei nods. "Well, they're a likely bet."
Lorelei tries to contact Spirit of Justice members, with little success.
Jackie contacts Starguard and asks if there's anu heroes on hand for that night.
Lorelei says, "I think I'll try my original idea anyway: try to get in disguise, on my own *ahem* merits. If it doesn't work, well, no harm done."
Lorelei tries to contact Rebound, too, as a New Blood member she *does* know as Lorelei.
Lorelei says, "If I do get in, I'm going to try to defuse the bodyguards before trouble even starts. That way, we'll only have to worry about the guy with the blinding attack...."
Jackie nods. "If you can get in can you take Ashton in as your escort and carry me in your handbag?"
Lorelei says, "You in my bag shouldn't be hard - just what I was thinking, in fact. I can try to get Ashton in, though I'm not that won't make things harder."
Ashton asks, "We're going after the guy that sells those meta pills, right?"
Jackie nods, "The guy who supplies the guys who sell those meta pills. But basically, yes."
Lorelei says, "Dress for the club Ashton - going to be hard enough getting us in there."
Ashton says, "Then I believe he might have meta abilities too. The chemical in those pills appears to be too complex to synthesize, as if they were manipulated on a molecular level."
Ashton says, "If he's the guy that makes the pills, that is."
Lorelei will help Ashton. :)
