It's a typical day at the Past Times Coffee Shop. The usual crowd is about,
drinking, reading, and chatting.
Ellbeth is walking up from the yacht club towards the coffee shop. She doesn't need to go there for coffee being capable of conjuring coffee up by magic but the company is often enjoyable.
Crater sits at a table in the coffee shop, idly looking about for any prospective snacks to 'liberate'. So far, he's behaving himself, though.
HMP walks in after her rounds about the city looking for trouble she then orders a half caf moca with whip cream on it. once she has her drink she sits and the bottom of her helmet retaacts allowing her to sip the coffee
Xander pushes the door to the coffee shop open with a free hand, the other occupied by a small gym bag. Looking around a moment, he begins the process of slipping through the other patrons toward the counter.
In the distance, there's the sound of an ambulance siren that gets louder as it gets closer. Suddenly there's a flash of motion outside on the street. A man on horseback races past the coffee shop. There an explosion and a crash out on the street.
Ellbeth puts down her coffee cup. "Now I would say you don't see that every day. But in this city..." Standing she starts to make her way outside.
Crater blinkblinks. He looks outside. The little hamster in the wheel runs for a bit in his head as he ponders on what to do. A quick glance around, then he shrugs and starts heading out to find out what the commotion is about.
Xander is startled, alond with presumably most the other customers, by the sudden noise. He looks toward the window, then toward the counter, then back, and sighs. "I need my own coffee machine." The gym bag gets dropped on an unoccupied table on his way back toward the door.
HMP doesn't waist and time she stands and runs to the door. Her helmet close quicky as she moves. She runs out onto the side walk
HMP blinks behind her mask and frowns, "what the hell is this" She draws her sword and walks to the nearest man on the horse, "What is going on here?"
Ellbeth quickly casts a mage shield spell. Somehow she gets the feeling she'll be needing it. Then she watches developments while preparing a Blindness spell.
Crater shrugs. He heads calmly in that direction, pretty sure he'll hear someone else ask what's going on. Ah. There goes the question. He wonders if violence is immenent, mentally preparing, should he need to take someone on a vertical trip.
"Oh yeah. There is something definitely temporally messed up about this coffee shop." Xander looks about the scene as HMP takes point, taking note of bystanders and the condition of the ambulance. His path brings him closer to the vehicle and the group, but in a less direct manner than the armored woman.
One of the Riders spots HMP approaching. He turns his horse to face towards the others. In a rough city accent that contrasts his outfit, he says. "Hey Boss! We gots company."
The Swordsman says, "Hold them off, while I cut to 'heart' of the matter."
HMP frowns as the horse men turn and face her and hear what the one guy who is addressed as boss said. She said in a loud voice, "Drop your weapon and get off your horse and there me no trouble!"
The Riders show the slightest bit of hesitation, but the Swordsman does not. From the back of his horse, he chops open the lock on the back of the ambulance. As the ambulance doors swing open, he levels his sword at a paramedic. "I believe that you know what I'm after. Hand it over. Now."
A little up Wharf Street from the coffee shop (15" away) there's been what looks like a car crash at an intersection. An ambulance has skidded off the road and crashed into a parked car. The cause of the accident seems to be a set of shiny metal caltrops scattered on the street. The crashed ambulance is surrounded by men with swords on horseback.
Xander starts moving toward the ambulance, and unfortunately the horsemen as well. Seeing the Swordsman in charge open up the vehicle he calls out, sparing the minions the briefest of glances. "Hey, ambulances are deposits only. No withdrawls!"
Narosia bumbles into the whole mess, unprepared for the chaos. Edging the book she holds onto her left hip, she wastes little inquiring and sprints towards the others, quizzical look asking many questions.
The Riders take their crossbows and aim at the four targets that come into view: Ellbeth, Xander, Crater, and HMP. Their weapons are designed to look like traditional crossbows, but they actually fire lasers.
All of the blasts miss.
Ellbeth quickly changes spell, moving forward a little and casting a Mage Barrier around the ambulance to protect it and the occupants from physical harm.
Inside the ambulance, the paramedic looks ready to give in to the Swordsman's demand. He picks up a bulky looking case and is about to hand it over... when Ellbeth manages to erect her force field.
Narosia finds a shadowlined place and shifts, image flickering and reappearing with added luminous gaze glaring right into the riders faces.
HMP Frowns behind her helmet and raise her sword, "I gave you a warning now I have to do this the hard way!" she chargest the nearest one her sword ready to strike at the horse's legs to bring it down and it rider.
HMP's sword cut shears off the leg of the robotic mount. Both the horse and rider are sent flying into the side of a parked car, ricocheting, and toppling onto the sidewalk.
The rider is more surprised than hurt, though.
The Swordsman decides to test the strenght of Ellbeth's magical barrier with the edge of his blade. He tries to clean through it with an overhead strike.
Ching! The wall of force holds.
Ellbeth controls a wince at the way the force barrier sings with stress from the sword blow . o O(Mmm... Stay away from that sword Elly.)
Crater lets out an eep as lasers are brought into play, and starts questioning his actions. Oh well. Too late to reconsider now. With a crack of displaced air, he teleports to... let's call him 'rider 3' and tries to grab him, intending on taking a short trip to the wild blue yonder with him.
Crater grabs the poor rider, and with another crack, hobo and rider are about 5" in the air! Time to say hello to gravity. Gravity is your friend. Crater tries to squeeze the guy. Maybe he'll hurt ribs or something.
Xander hardly needs to shift his stance as the laser shot flies wide, but that does little to curtail the look of something between shock and indignance he returns to one of the unoccupied assailants. Speeding his steps considerably, he continues his way toward the nearest horseman.
The Riders still on the ground fire their crossbows at HMP, Xander, and Ellbeth.
All three of them miss.
Ellbeth maintains the mage barrier. No longer needing to focus on accuracy she can be a little more careful about avoiding attacks. Staying back where she is seems a good start.
Narosia notes with wry inward smile the riders think little about her equalling a threat, so takes the invisible status oppotunity and strikes, violent dark lines winding out from her hands, wrists to caress the third rider's crossbow with deceptive gentleness, then yank hard at the object.
Flying goes the deadly crossbow, arching gracefully before smashing on the ground.
Crater gets to his feet, readying the possibility of needing to do the same again.
The Swordsman tries once more to shatter the force wall.
Ellbeth sighs as her mage barrier is broken. "Strong as a bank vault door just doesn't do the job these days."
HMP Smiles behind her helmet and pushes a button on her helmet turning on her head set two a heavy metal radio station. The music blast out of her helmet to the point anyone near her can hear it. She raise her sword again and turns to the Swordsman. Her golden blade catches any light making it look like it glowing for a moment as she charges.
The Swordsmen parries HMP's attack with his sword. He smiles, seeming to welcome the challenge.
Xander makes his way to his assailant at last, glaring dagger at him. "You shot at me, you ren faire reject!" With a humorous looking hop, he swings a fist at the rider in question.
"Hmnf." The Rider says. "That all you got?" There's some armor to that costume he has.
Three Riders fire at HMP, Xander, and Ellbeth
The final Rider climbs to his feet and draws his short sword.
Ellbeth decides to let the sword users fight it out. Smart cautious mages do not stand between sword wielding warriors. So she picks on the rider who is shooting at the impetous citizen and summons a host of spirits to strike at him.
Ellbeth sees the rider slump and then topple off his robotic steed as the spirits lash at him.
HMP Laughs as the Swordsmen parries he sword. It seems like an odd reaction but she been looking for someone on her leave she can fight with and not have to hold back. Sure she spar with heroes like Fist but it no match she always lose. She now holds her sword ready and strikes again trying hit him. The music from her head set still blasting in her ears helping her feel the rush of battle.
The Swordman darts a step back, just out of the range of Princess's strike. "Close, but not quite. Let me give you a pointer..." As he says that, he gestures with the tip of his sword.
Narosia feels a spark of pride at her sucess yet sensibly sees the threat far away conclusion. Watching HMP battle with the Swordsman she intercedes during his threat, sending a blast of dark energy his way. Either outcome it would distract him.
The blast knocks the Swordsman off his feet. He raises his head and looks over at Narosia.
The Swordman leaps to his feat with an effortless motion. He runs to the back of the ambulance, to grab the case from the paramedic.
The paramedic manages to stay a step ahead of the Swordsman!
Crater blinks as the swordsman bothers the paramedics, heading over and trying to put a foot upside his head with fancy hobo-style.
Crater misses! Horribly! So much for style, eh? "... Crater meant to do that." >.>
Entropy takes a blast to the chest, a true and solid hit that knocks him back. He leaves his feet for a moment, returning to the ground hard on his back. "Fine. Have it your way." He kips back to his feet in a fluid movement, the misty aura around him intensifying. The now-tattered civilian clothes seem to fade to dust and join the whirling streaks of grey as he raises a hand, singling out the horseman who hit him and directing a pale grey bolt of energy at him.
The blast almost takes the rider off of his mount, but he keeps his balance. He shakes his head, gathering his senses.
The Swordsman barks out some commands. "Riders! Take care of these two while I secure the prize." He indicates Crater and HMP with his blade. Rider riders attack.
The heroes manage to evade the Riders' weapons.
Ellbeth selects the rider shooting at her this time and directs the spirits to strike at him.
Ellbeth sees a second rider fall to the ground as the host of incorporeal spirits fly /through/ his body.
HMP Sees the Swordman get knocked down and jump back to his feet. She frowns when he grabs the paramedic, "coward scared to face me one on one have to take a hostage." She raise her sword, "down the hostage and we can finish this"
"Why, you fear." Narosia draws near the Swordsman, smiling after a fashion, fashion employed scantly for solid reasons. Straightening out both arms, the mageling proceeds to send a different pulsing blast, streaking dim violet and one that enwraps the target in place of simple knockbacks.
HMP She lifts her sword ready to strike. Once it clear she charges forward at the Swordman. The blade comes down in a mighty swing. In her head she prays to who ever will listen asking to hit.
The Swordsman is slammed against the interior wall of the ambulance and the entire vehicle rocks with the impact. He slides down the wall, stunned.
Crater grins at the rider that swung the sword at him. "Mommy not teach not to play with pointy objects?" He swings again, this time at the one who just attacked him.
The ambulance is rocked again.
HMP Smiles and the blade of her sword to the swordman's throat, "Call off your man and tell them to give up"
The Swordsman looks up at HMP. "If it were a one on one fight, I doubt this would be the outcome. But you've won today -- take solace in that fact. I'd like to see how tough you are without your friends."
The Swordsman doesn't move, however.
Entropy's hand trembles ever so slightly as his target is felled by apparitions, taking just a moment to switch to the last mounted horseman before he looses another ashen bolt.
The remaining Riders run. The mounted swordsman disappears down an alley. The other on flees on foot, down the street.
Ellbeth calls to the spirits and sets them circling around the prone Swordsman.
Ellbeth looks at the Swordsman, "It is time to yield and live to fight another day."
The Swordsman lets his sword drop to the ground.
The two remaining Riders get away.
The Paramedic steps forward with the case he's been carrying. "Please... I have to get this to the hospital as quickly as possible!"
HMP smiles behinf her helmet and looks at swordman, "after you get out of jail of you want to face me on the feild on honor I be happy to fight you sword to sword no outside help"
Entropy takes a long few seconds let his arm lower, looking down at his hands with trepidation. This lasts a few heartbeats before he lowers them completely, then strides forward to the ambulance, looking the paramedic over. "You should be able to make it now. What is it?"
Ellbeth steps up to the medic. "Stand close to me." She starts vasting a portal spell to open a gate directly to the hospital.
The Swordsman smiles to HMP. "We've got some time before the police arrive, dear."
Narosia says quietly, "Will you elaborate on the why this attack commenced?" The paramedic recieves a probing look, "Quid pro." Beneath her assumed confidence the girl fairly trembles inside, guts knotted tight.
HMP laughs, "first you have serve your time in jail your not getting away from me like that"
The paramedic explains. "The ambulance is stuck..." He looks at the portal that Ellbeth opens and he says, "Thanks, ma'am. It's a human heart and I need to get it to the hospital. There's a patient who's waiting on this."
Ellbeth completes the spell opening a portal to the hospital. "Step through with me."
Crater hms. "Maybe Crater try and memorize where hospital is sometime." He waves. "Good luck."
Entropy frowns, then looks over to the Swordsman. "And what would someone like you find so irresistable about a heart that you'd have a shot at it out here?"
"I'm no spring chicken," the Swordsman says. "After prison, it won't be much of a fight."
Ellbeth steps through with the medic and the gate closes...
HMP frowns behind the mask, "what the of sick freak like you want with a heart"
The Swordsman nods. "I
The Swordsman nods. "I'll tell you... if you can beat me in a duel."
HMP laughs, "I rather see you behind bars then fight you"
Angstrom shrugs and looks off in the distance.
The Swordsman shrugs and looks off in the distance.
"Thank you." Narosia sighs softly, enjoying a energised aura the portal emits, then turns to the captive and HMP. "Trust him little. I suspect much strength hidden."
Narosia thinks . o O (Yes, spout opinions freely...it will "really" endear.)
Entropy rolls his eyes. "Oh, just beat him up already." He looks to where his watch would be, but apparently it didn't fare well, which brings a bit of muttering. "This was overly brash, to say the least. Must have been for something worthwhile to him."
HMP nods, "i not scare of his skill or Stranth thats why I want to face him but I not going to let my presonal feeling get in the way of my duty here"
Narosia nods, "Good hearing." Offering Entropy a significant expression she leaves, letting wiser heads sort out the whole messy business. Plus, books never translate themselves.
Crater shrugs. "Interfering with heart delivery. At least not going out and harvesting his own." He ponders. "...but this way, two might have died, instead of one. ... Crater conflicted." >.>
HMP once the cops come and take them away, "Well thats done
Entropy returns Narosia's look with one restraining a good deal of unease, stepping back away from the others. "One doesn't chase an organ out in the open like this without having a use for it. I'm guessing this is a matter of the donor lists not moving quite as fast as they should." He absently wipes at the back of his hands, seeming to try to brush away the drifting mist that surrounds him, though his fingers pass through without effect. "I...I need to get back to the university...I don't do this often."
