New Blood Hawaii Vacation III ~ The Luau
Participants: Amber and Azure, Exodus, Silvershadow, Blue Streak, Allure, Xing-Liu, Midnight.
Regent changes his look, "Oh..I thought it was you.." he pulls his PDA its Kimo Calling, "Ay Kimo, howzit?" .."Yeah, let me ask, hold on kay?" he asks the group, "Any of you guys up for a Luau?"
Xing-Liu slides over to a kneel, inquisitive and thoughtful. She agreeingly nods, considering the morning rather good herself.
Caleb shrugs. "What's a Luau?"
Regent grins, "Hawaiian style party."
Jace sits up and looks her over, checking to see if her cloths have been washed recently, "So, did you like the new cloths?"
Caleb shrugs. "Party sounds good, sure."
Regent looks to the others and yells outside.."Hey!! You guys want to go to a Luau?!"
Jace looks back up to Regent, "Yea, Sure!"
Regent yells again, "Xing-liu!?"
Jace looks Xing over inquizitively, then gestures back to Regent.
Caleb mutters something under his breath, then swears a bit.
Izzy says, "Sounds good to me. Too bad Jess can't be here."
Regent looks at Caleb a questioning look on his face..as if to say, "what?" he nods to Iz, "Yeah, but she'll experience it all anyway..I think since Jen's going.."
Caleb raises an eyebrow at Izzy. "Oh? You thinkin' of experimentin'?"
Caleb points to his ear in Matt's direction, most likely unhelpfully.
Xing-Liu looks momentarily puzzled, at first not quite understanding what Jace means, then reaches an epiphany by the looks of her. As her name is called, she looks up toward Matt, looking like, as she does most every other time she's asked if she wants to do something, she has no idea what it is.
Regent nods..
Jace grins a draws some stick figures, around a over pit and a wierd slash bad piture of a pig roasting, then smirking he draws bubbles over there head with the word "yey" in it. He writes finally, "do you want to come with?"
Caleb wanders out to join Jace and XL, looks at the sand-drawing and chuckles.
Xing-Liu nods, seeming to understand with the depiction at least, and offers Jace a hand up, smiling.
Jace says, "Excellent"
Jace takes her hand and stands up, "This is a perfect oppertunity to try out your new cloths"
Izzy says, "You mean with Jess?" He looks at Jess and grins. "I'm afraid ONE or the other of them would beat the SNOT outta me!"
Caleb takes a minute before figuring out that Izzy is responding to his previous comment, and nods. "Both, I'd guess."
Caleb smirks. "Might be worth it, though. Guess you could ask Jace."
Jace shoots a glare at Caleb
Izzy shudders for a moment, lost in some private thought, then smiles aand joins te rest of you in the reality of the beach.
Xing-Liu heads inside again, actually taking a while before she emerges wearing a pair of denim pants and shirt, both looking freshly purchased. Tags attached et al.. Still no shoes.
Jace grins at Xing when he sees her, "I bought you sandles if you want to try them Xing.."
Jace says, "They even make your feet feel good while you move, I think they are from japan"
Xing-Liu looks a little confused about that, but heads back in, emerging wearing sandals. She looks at Jace, uncertainly displaying herself now.
Jace whistles and grins, "Very nice, now maybe we can talk you into wearing a dress sometimes, i'd be really impressed. How are the sandles?
Regent picks up the PDA and says, "Looks like about 6 of us are going."
Matt nods and hangs up, "Ok, Kimo says he'll be here in 10 minutes, We're going to Aunty Yings Luau Cove." he grins.."I've never been to one of these, It should be fun."
Caleb shrugs. "Sounds better'n Uncle Louie's House'o'Luau..." Xing-Liu walks a little in the sandals, looking a little awkward in them for a moment then getting used to how they feel and adjusting how she walks. She's done without shoes for a month or more now.
Regent grins "Ok folks, attire is casual..super casual, so whatever works, Bikinis' shorts, shirts.." he goes into his room and grabs a new Reef shirt. "I'm going to wait for Kimo outside, I'll shout when he gets here."
Jace nods to Regent, "You got it"
Caleb says, "Indoors or out?"
Jace turns back to Xing and tries to gage her expression, "So?"
Regent shouts as he goes out, "Outdoors. on a beach I think."
Caleb nods, looks at what he's currently wearing, shrugs, and grabs a sun-hat.
Xing-Liu looks like she's used to it now. She takes a moment to bring one knee up to her chin, balancing there as she tests the jeans' fit.
Jace says, "Do they pass the Xing challenge?"
A shout rings out, "He's here!"
Jace extends his hand to Xing, "Shall we?"
Apparently Ivy had Xing-Liu's general habits of motion in mind when the clothing was selected. Xing-Liu answers Jace with a kick, sent just above his head in an arc.
Jace flinches hard, then recovers and smirks, "I'll take that as a yes"
Caleb smirks. "Yeah. A dress. Definitely."
Xing-Liu smiles, ensuring Jace is alright. Once that's certain she's headed out the door to meet Kimo.
Caleb joins the party.
Jace sticks his hand back in his pocket slowly, hoping no one else saw, and then moves to the other group
The SuV limo all clean and dried out is back, "Ay kids you ready fo go to a Hawaiian Style Pahty or what?"
Jace grins and nods, "Always brah"
Xing-Liu sits inside the limo this time, for whatever reason. Beside Jace, specifically. She offers her Fist to him.
He laughs and opens the door for everyone. He says again to Jace, "I love it when you haulis try fo talk all local." he smiles at Xing, "So you goin sit on da top of da car again in your nice clothes oh what?"
Jace isnt quite sure what to do, so he taps her fist with his, and ponders where she grew up.
Puzzled by a whispered mention from Jace, XIng-Liu feels around the clothing she has on, finding the glaringly obvious tags and looking thoughtful before nodding slightly. She makes no move to remove them, but looks worried about it.
After everyone is in the car Matt is loaded on by Kimo since everyone else seems distracted, "Kay guys I goin tell you guys what a luau stay, cause den you goin know why da luaus is one hawaiian tradition." he closes the door and gets in the front the car starts to glide out, and he says over teh speaker, "So, long time ago before Hawaii was paht of da US, hawaiians had dey own traditions yah?"
Jace slides out a pocket knife and cuts the tags for Xing, "there you got, shouldnt pull'em, they'll tear your clothes"
Grinning, Xing-Liu looks pleased to have guessed right about the tags. She pockets them, making sure to not foolishly throw things away.
Matt knows this stuff of course, so he sits back and listens while Kimo speaks, hawaiian style music plays in the back ground. "So den, Da communities had to work togedah to get work done yah? So da people at da end of da day would get togedah and trow one pahty, but den, aftah a while when peoples stahted to have one regulah life, dey stopped having luaus, da old ways just nevah work right."
"And dat is kinda sad, don'tchu tink?
Jace says, "Oh yoa brah, dat's real sad, good to see you brin'in it back!"
Kimo continues unabated.."So den people wen start tinking, "Ay I nevah seen my cuz in one long time, and how aunty stay doing, or Wow, I nevah see Tutu since last mont, I wonder what she stay up to.." He actually turns his head to jace..taking his eyes off the road, "Ay, you no be making fun ah?"
Xing-Liu looks only a little lost, still unused to Hawaii's take on English.
Jace says, "No way brah, just trying to get a feel, nothing better than people getting together, ya know?"
Kimo shrugs, "Dat's true brah, dat's true, So den, Dey started having dees luaus so dat dey could get togedah, you know? Everybody bring someting, Cook one pig and da works, So now days, dey get people who like experience one real Hawaiian luau who would nevah get da chance, cause dey no mo family out hea yeah?"
Jace grins and winks at Xing, he whispers, "Its all about the lingo"
Caleb looks over at Matt. "We were spozed to bring somethin'?"
Jace says, "So is that like how BBQ's got started in the states?"
Regent shakes his head, "No that was just traditionally, now its pretty commercial, we're paying 80bucks a head."
Caleb nods.
Kimo Shrugs, "I don't know I only been to disneyland wit my kids yah, so I don't know about da states."
They reach the luau grounds, and Kimo helps Matt out first putting him in his chair, the grounds are large and grassy with a rough beach, more a rocky coast than a beach on the west end, there are a number of people around a smoking dirt pit, a bunch of tables, and a large cleared area with a stage in front. "Welcome to Aunty Ying's Luau cove, Da best luau in da state."
Jace grins and helps Xing out of the suv, "Wow, lots of people.."
Regent looks around, "Yup, just like the tourbook showed, Pretty nice," The sun is high and there is a light off shore breeze, the workers all work in Malo's or sarongs, most of them young tanned and muscular or slimmish and pretty, some of them older, One graying older man, probably in his sixties has a number of hawaiian polynesian tattoo's all over his chest and his arms, as he watches the smoking pit.
Caleb gets out of the limo and wanders around a bit, pretty quickly ending up leaned against the shady side of a large boulder, some distance from the actual crowd, watching the party.
Regent sticks to Jennifer's side, "Jen, You ever been to anything like that?"
Xing-Liu looks about at the somewhat large gathering, a little awkward now. She stays near Jace.
Jennifer shakes her head, looking around the area. "No I haven't. Did Kimo say this was commercial?"
A dark skinned polynesian girl walks up to Caleb, "Sir, care for some Poke?" (pronounced, Poh'Keh.)
Regent shakes his head, "No I did, and it is, but its done family style, I choose this one because it was run by a family for the last 25 years, there really is an Aunty Ying around here somewhere.
Jace grins and takes Xing's hand gently at first, to see if she accepts, then whispers to her, "You okay here?"
Again, it's awkward, but Jace is permitted to grasp the hand. And he feels a gentle knocking of mind from her.
Jace nods to Xing
On another plane of existence a spirit is imprisoned and being tortured.
Jennifer nods as Matt explains and smiles. "I should have changed." She looks down at the camo shirt and shorts she is wearing.
Regent shakes his head,.."You look nice in it, don't worry about it."
Jace turns to xing and smiles, then begins to shakes a bit, starting on his left side, his eyes swells up, and the blood vessels burst turning it red. He reels a bit, and stumbles back to the SUV, almost making it in before he passes out
"WHY ARE YOU HERE??" booms in the head of Jace,.
Caleb looks puzzled and a little wary by the offer, thoguh intrigued by the offerer. "Uh... I'm sorry, don't think I heard you right. What kinda pokey you got in mind?"
Regent turns to see Jace ailing.."Jace?"
The server blushes, she's gotten this a lot before, "Its Poke sir, its a food."
Caleb nods. "Oh. Um, sure. Thanks." He takes some of whatever it is he's being offered.
Kimo grabs Jace before he passes out..."Ah..whats dis? Oh man.." he picks Jace up and puts him in the SUV, "Ay Mistah Regent, you guys better come take a look at yo friend."
The food is raw octopus or ahi tuna with a lot of garlic, a hint of habanero pepper, some seaweed and green onions, a very tastey treat.
Xing-Liu stays at Jace' side, not leaving it during this time.
Jennifer hasn't noticed Jace's reaction and is thus surprised when Kimo draws Matt's attention to it. "What happened. Does Xing-Liu know?"
Kimo allow's Xing in the SUV and Matt hovers over, "What's up?..What Happened Kimo?"
Kimo looks confused, "I don't know Mistah Regent, da guy just wen look like someone wen hit him in da face den he wen keel ovah yah?" as this is being said Xing's hands already glow blue healing the physical injuries to Jaces face.
Xing-liu's minstrations have Jace looking fine now, and Jace sits up, "ungg.."
Matt calls in from outside, "Dude you ok?"
Matt holds his head and nods,.."Yeah man..I'm good, I better rest in here for a while though."
Matt nods, "Ok man..you sure?"
Jace calls from inside the SUV, "I'm Sure man, have fun."
Xing is not quite convinced and decides to stay inside the SUV with him despite his urging for her to go outside and enjoy the day.
The polynesian girl says, "Sir didn't you want to see the Kalua Pig pit?"
Regent nods,..and tells Jen as he returns to her, "Seem's like he's ok.."
Jennifer nods. "Xing-Liu will be better for Jace than any hospital visit. Let's check back a time or two. And Jace sit for a while so Xing-Liu can enjoy the party as well."
Regent nods, "Sounds like a plan. lets go check out the fire pit." he points at the smoking pit.
Caleb thinks . o O (Um... Kahlua and pork? Man, these guys have odd food.)
Regent hovers over to the smoking pit and the heavily tattooed polynesian man. "Hows the Kalua coming?"
Caleb nods vaguely. "Um... sure. Yeah." He gets a bit closer to the firepit, running into Matt and Jen. "Hey guys." He looks around for Jace and XL, smirks a little, doesn't say anything.
Jennifer waves to Caleb when she spots him. "Hi. This is pretty cool, hey." She looks to Matt, "So what's with the fire pit. Is it some kind of ritual? People running barefoot through it? I think I saw a TV program on that once."
Caleb waves. "Yeah, it's a party all right. Girl said somethin' bout pig, though... I spose they just roast it."
Stephie, approaching, observes, "It's amazing the stupid things people do on TV."
The old man laughs, a melodic and pleasant laugh, he says, with a deep kind voice, "No, its not any of dat kine stuff, Da pit is used fo cooking da pig and da oddah stuff."
People come around offering drinks, champaign, waters, beer..regardless of age.
Jennifer says, "oh..." and sounds a bit disappointed.
Caleb grins. "You into firewalkin', Jen?" He grabs a beer from a passing beer-offerer.
Jennifer says, "Not personally. But it would have been interesting to watch."
Stephie decides to try some champagne, since it's on offer.
Caleb grins. "Maybe you can talk Rach into demonstratin later. Bet she'd be good at it."
The man says, "You see dat fire ovah deah? We stay heat up da rocks til dey stay red, den we lay down some ti leafs" and he puts a lei that seems to be made of long twisted leaves, its actually pretty nice, around Jen's neck, "Dis is one ti leaf, Stay full of oils and watah, so it steams when da rocks is put on dem. Den we put some more on top da rocks den we put pig and potatoes and all kine stuff in da pit to cook. den we cover um up til its pau."
Caleb blinks. "Till it's what?"
The man says, "Til its pau."
Matt adds, "Til its finished."
The old man nods, "Yeah dat's what I said."
Caleb nods to the old man. "Sorry... still a bit slow on the local jargon. They don't make 'em haulier'n me, y'know?"
Regent smiles, "That lei looks good on you Jen."
The Old man laughs.."Nah Braddah, Local is in da heart yah? No worry if you find people out hea dat 'hate da haulies' dey just stupid, peoples peoples is what I say."
Jennifer smiles and settles the lei around her neck. "Just so long as it's not going in the fire pit with potatos and long-pig.
The old man picks up his cool's light and raises it to Caleb, "Heah's to you braddah, welcome to Aunty Yings Luau Cove" he laughs and takes a long drain from his bottle.
Regent grins.."Nice...Ay, whats your name Uncle?"
The old man says, "Funny you should ask dat, I'm uncle Ying!"
Caleb grins. "Yeah, I hear you. And, hey, you'd be rough-stooled freshmeat back inside, yourself. Jargon's jargon... takes gettin' used to, is all." He smiles, lifts his beer up in a kind of mock-salute and drinks.
Regent grins.."uncle, where's aunty den?"
Uncle Ying looks around, "I tink she stay getting ready for da show, but dats' all I can tell you guys. Or else you guys not goin have any fun yah?"
Stephie sips her champagne.
Regent grabs a water. "Jen you want something to drink?"
Izzy finally shows up. "Sorry I took so long guys. I was kinda waitin' for Stephie to show up, I thought she might..." He stops as he notices her. "Oh."
Stephie smiles at Izzy. "You were saying?"
The polynesian girl goes to Izzy, "Sir care for some Poke?" she carries a dish with raw fish, green onions, seseme oil lots of garlic, and a touch of habanero.
Regent smiles.."Oh sweet, Poke."
Caleb smirks. "Man, for somebody who moves fast, Iz, you sure do end up gettin' places late a lot." He snatches another piece of poke.
Izzy gawks for a moment. "Would I like to... OH! The food! Uh, yeah, thanks." He accepts sheepishly, then moves over towards Stephie. "I was GONNA say you migt like to come, and APPARENTLY I was RIGHT! Glad you could make it!"
Jennifer nods to Matt. "Fruit juice of some kind would be nice, Matt."
Stephie says, "I've been here for a while.... just off over there a bit - hm, that looks interesting."
The girl looks almost offended by Caleb and she takes one of the paper plates under the dish and serves him up some and gives him a spork from her apron.."Here you are sir."
Stephie tries some poke.
The girl does the same for Stephie and Izzy grinning at Izzy's statement..there's a reason she's been chosen for this job.
Izzy beams and sits near Stephie to share. ...edging the girl out of the way, then smiles and winks. Izzy says, "Let me help with that." Izzy says, "Oh. Yeah. Well..." Izzy relents and tries the venison as well. Not bad, really.
Stephie says, "Oh, that explains it."
The young man, well tanned and pretty well built says to Stephie, "I must say Ma'am, you are one of the prettiest visitors we've ever had here."
Uncle Ying frowns, "Ay Tommy take da venison and get out of hea, stop messing wit da guests.." As Tommy leaves, uncle Ying says, "Kids dees days.."
Regent looks at uncle Ying, "Ay, Uncle are those real or what?"
Stephie smiles at the man. "Thank you."
Izzy doesn't look ENTIRELY pleased at him offering compliments along with the food...
Uncle Ying nods to Stephie, "I don't know how many times I need fo tell dat kid to lay off da guests, I goin have to fire him I tink." He looks at Regent, "yeah, dees stay real braddah, My uncle wen take me to da kahuna fo get um done when I was one small kid."
Regent blinks.."Really?..wow. You got a Kahuna to do it?"
Stephie says to Uncle Ying, "That's all right, at least he was polite about it."
Izzy blushes a tad, then looks at Stephie, and then back at the old man. "Well, and he WAS just telling the truth."
Uncle Ying still shakes his head in the direction of Tommy.."It still no excuse. Dat kid should Know bettah, I going have to tell his mom.."
Stephie smiles to Izzy. "Then thank you, too."
A server comes and offers caleb another beer.
Izzy says, "That he was polite and told the truth? Yeah, moms HATE that."
Stephie grins at Izzy, thought the grin fades into a sadder smile.
4 young men come to the pit with shovels as the loud speakers start to go off.
"Gather by the fire pit everyone and let Uncle Ying tell you about the Kalua Pig."
Uncle Ying laughs.."Ok time to earn my keep as Aunty always tells me." he stands up and starts to grandstand while people gather around the pit.
Izzy seems to not blush (or at least not as much anyways) this time as he looks at Stephie. "Well, thank YOU for BEING so pretty!"
Stephie laughs. "I didn't have much of a choice about it. At least, I don't think so..."
Izzy grins. "Then thank you for letting me sit so NEAR it?"
As Uncle starts to tell the story of how Kalua pig is made the men start to dig then they lift a huge burlap tarp up uncovering a bunch of rocks and leaves, Uncle Ying tells people these guys are real 'tough' hawaiian men so don't do this at home, as they pick up the heated rocks with bare hands and start tossing them to the side removing the leaves to show what looks to be a pig and a bunch of burlap sacks underneath, as soon as the leaves are removed the incredible aroma of a roasted pig comes out the smell is amazing and the people around ooh and ah.
Stephie doesn't immediately have an answer to that.
Uncle Ying goes over to the pit, "As da official Pig Roastah and being Uncle Ying, I get to taste the pig first yah?...Just to make sure its good enough for you guys." he winks and the crowd generally laughs.
Izzy smiles as the old man puts on his show and slowly slides his hand over towards Stephie's, eventually trying to slip his hand inside hers.
The smell of the pig makes most people's mouth water, and seeing uncle take a small piece and pop it in his mouth, he says, "Yeah, it stay pretty good! Everybody go sit down we going have da feast in a couple minutes, we going call you guys by table, if you like watch us take da pig out, come ovah hea, no get in da way kay!" he smiles. "And NO Steal any eiddah!" he laughs. most of the crowd laughs too, many go to sit but some stay to watch.
Regent pulls Jennifer over, "This is kinda cool, I didn't know this is how it was done til I saw this the first time a long time ago.
Stephie mostly seems to be watching the show, but doesn't withdraw her hand.
Jennifer doesn't need a lot of pulling by Matt. She seems more than willing to go over and watch.
The pig is taken from the pit by a couple of guys, its on a stretcher basically and wrapped in canvas or something, it is unwrapped and its actually housed in chicken wire, the pig seems to have its shape but a lot of it has melted off.
The two guys put the pig on a large platter and shake the pig hard a few times and the meat just seem to fall apart through the wireing into the platter. most of the bones remain in the wiring, and the guys put on gloves and get to work separating bone from meat the amount of food is massive.
Regent grins.."Simple huh?..this is like a science with these guys."
Jennifer says, "That's incredible. It just fell apart."
Regent nods, "I heard its cause it cooks for like 10 hours over the stones."
Regent smiles, "Lets go sit?"
Izzy says, "Who said simple?"
Jennifer nods and walks back to the table with Matt.
Regent grins, "Well..I mean to remove it from the bones." he follows Jennifer back to the table. All the tables are marked with names and the Winter's table is unshared.
Stephie says, "I can cook things so they fall apart faster than that...."
One of the shakers says to Stephie as she passes by, "One whole pig?"
Izzy nods and follows, attempting not to break contact wit Stephie. When they get to the table, he pulls out her chair for here, then does so for Jen as well.
Regent frowns as Izzy does what he wanted to do..but shrugs..
Stephie grins. "I was thinking more of things that aren't supposed to fall apart. Most obviously, fried eggs."
A plump older woman comes out on stage in a MuuMuu (hawaiian dress) and says in a hospitable voice, "Welcome to Aunty Ying's Luau! You guys enjoying yourselves?"
When most of the people cheer Aunty Ying says, with a happy voice, "Kay den, Da Wahines, which is ladies, and da Kane's which is da men, will help you get your food. But while you wait lets have da Hula Halau of Hana give you some entertainment, dey going show you some hula moves you can take home wit you!" she smiles as about 20 dancers come on to the stage dressed in hula skirts and coconut boobs.
Regent grins at Jen, "You could ask one of them if they have a spare outfit if you want to change now.."
Jennifer looks at the dancers, and the coconut tops, and slowly and silently turns red faced.
While some people are being led to the food line, dancers come down the stage dancing and walking to the music that plays and start grabbing people from the tables that are not eating, one grabs Izzy another grabs stephie, "Come on up."
Regent rub's Jen's back with a grin if she will let him.
Jennifer lets Matt rub but she does seem to be a bit ill at ease.
Stephie looks at the dancers and then at Izzy. "Um..."
Izzy beams at the fact that she seems to be asking him. Or maybe she's just amused. "You wanna?"
One of the Taller built male dancers smiles as he passes by, "Come on Wahine, let dem show you how fo Hula!" he pats Izzy on the back, "Come on brah, come on up!" he laughs as he looks over the table and grabs Jen's hand.
Stephie says, "Well, um...." A few months back Stephie would have said no, but she realises that that's just the sort of thing she's trying to overcome. "Sure...."
The girl smiles, and nods, "Come on, I show you how kay?" and she leads Stephie up to the stage in front of everyone. There are a lot of eyes on her Izzy manages to smile even though he's not so surre about this, but stands and pulls out her chair to accompany her up.
Stephie is more or less used to eyes by now. The dancing she's less sure of...
Jennifer stays seated in her chair resising any effort to get her up and dancing.
Regent smiles, "Go ahead Jen, it should be fun.."
The girls start to show stephie how to move her hands and her hips and a guy shows Izzy the same.
Jennifer shakes her head. "Uh, that's not me."
Izzy glances back at Regent. He hasn't been around him much and is never quite sure how to react. On the one hand, he's always heard that handicapped people want to be treated just like everybody else. He's even said so. But how much. When do you offer help, and when was it an insult? And, like now. He's sure he'd want them to have fun, but he's their host, and them going up while he has to sit back there has got to bother him at least a LITTLE...
Regent puts his hand on Jen's, "You sure?..Fun can be you too you know?:
Maybe it's the cheerleader training, but Stephie takes to the dancing quite easily - far from perfectly, but it's at least graceful. Not, of course, that it's the dancing most people are watching her for.
There are a lot of angry women..angry with their husbands in the crowd.
Regent looks at the stage, 'See, Iz and Stephie are doing it.." he doesn't add that Stephie is doing quite well and looks quite hot..as usual.
Izzy manages the steps easily, but oddly enough, his timing is off.
Jennifer smiles, "Okay, if you really want me to look silly. When I get back I'll explain why I didn't want to." and she gets up and joins in.
Regent smiles, "You'll look great!"
Stephie catches that and says to Jennifer (while dancing), "Hey, I wore one of Caleb's shirts - don't worry about looking silly."
The guy leads her up there and places her hands and her hips and shows her how to move. His way is flirtatious but so is everyone on stage with the people who've been pulled, up, it seems to be part of the show.
Regent watches from the table smiling, o O (I'm glad they didn't pull me up)
Jace opens the SuV, and stands up shaken a bit, he holds himself on the car to steady himself, rubbing his eyes. One still bloodfilled.
Stephie continues to dance most of the guys watching her and her ugly shirt.
Jennifer comes back to the table and sits. She closes her eyes and breathes deeply for a few seconds before opening her eyes and taking a sip of juice.
Regent looks at Jen at first smiling, but then he looks concerned.."You ok?"
Jace walks over to the table and sits down, half smiling
Stephie follows Izzy down back to the table.
Xing-liu comes out and follows jace to the table, a look of concern still on her face.
Jennifer nods. "Yeah. Just give me a couple of seconds. Stupid conditioned reflexes."
Jace whispers some reassurences Xing's way that hes okay, and gets them a few drinks, then returns to sit back down.
Jace says, "So, how is the party?"
Izzy smiles. "What I'VE seen has been pretty good! At least I'm having a good time."
Regent looks confused but nods.."Ok,.."
Stephie smiles "I actually learned how to hula!"
Jace grins at Stephie, "I'm sure thats an excellent skill to have"
Xing nods but watches Jace to make sure he doesn't suffer another fit.
Stephie smiles, but says nothing.
Jennifer half smiles, "You're think by now I'd have gotten over it, wouldn't you?"
Izzy grins at Stephie. "Maybe we could start practicing together."
Regent leans over and pats her hand, "Old habits die hard right?" he smiles as a server comes to the table, "Kay folks, its your turn da only rule is leave full!"
Jace says, "Huh? Whats going on Matt?"
Izzy glances at Jen. "You ok?"
Regent smiles, "They just came from the stage, they were just dancing the Hula."
Jennifer nods, "Yeah." and leaves her hand beneath Matt's.
Jace says, "Oh, well...what does she mean leave full?"
Stephie smiles and actually takes Izzy's hand, "Come on, I know you must be hungry."
Regent grins at Jace.."It means eat til you're full man."
Jace says, "Oh well, awesome!"
Izzy thinks . o O (WHAT a WOMAN!!!)
Izzy follows Stephie happily.
Jace stands up and takes Xing by the hand doing his best to pull her like she pulled him across the beach toward the food!
Regent squeezes Jen's hand, "come, lets get some food."
Jace makes himself a huge plate of just about everything and comes back to the table to share his new plunder Jace says, "What a crazy party.."
There is all kinds of food, traditional and for those who are less willing to try new things, there's fried chicken potatoes, rice and steak along with ham and turkey.
Jace starts to stuff himself full, as he hasn't eaten in awhile, he can almost pack it away like Izzy
Jen nods and stands getting some food and returning to the table.
Matt gets a bunch of food too and most of it local stuff he can't get on the mainland.
Izzy breaks the rule. He doesn't leave full, but he still eats a large amount.
Jace says, "What is half that stuff Matt?"
Regent grins, "Laulau, lomi lomi salmon, kalua pig, chicken luau..sweet potato..poi..
Jace says, "Right..."
Regent points, "Fish and pork wrapped in Taro leaves, Salmon with diced tomato and stuff, the pig, kinda like spinach and chicken, mashed taro root..all good stuff" he says between bites.
Jace says, "Someday i'll take you back to my home town, and teach you guys what "corn" is" he makes the hand quotes and everything. "That will be the day"
Jace nods a bit, "I can see your enjoying it"
Izzy says, "Most of those I recognize. Sorta. But what's laulau?"
Regent grins, "Laulau is pork and fish that is wrapped in Taro leaves, then steamed for a long time." he points to the pit. "and then eaten. .Its great!"
Regent grins, "Get some!"
Regent watches Jen with a sidelong glance a thoughtful look on his face.
Izzy says, "I did. Just didn't know what the devil I was getting." He grins. "All I REALLY recognized was the sweet potato!"
Regent grins, "Well, as my dad used to say, never ask until you've eaten cause you never know what you'll miss when you get picky"
Izzy says, "Picky has NEVER been my problem."
Jace grins, "I'm normally picky, but this stuff is really good"
Jace says, "Sweet you know?"
Regent nods, "Yup."
Regent grins at Iz, "I bet buddy. We'll here's your chance to really eat up and have people apprciate it. the rule was Leave full, this is jsut the first course anyway,"
Izzy grins broadly. "Oh REALLY?"
Jace says, "Good lord, I'll never be able to eat the second.."
Lots of people are going back and forth to the food line and Aunty Ying says, "Ok time for da show yah! Give another welcome to the Hula Halau of Hana!" Men and women, about 15 come out in a different much more formal looking hula outfit and start to do an actual hawaiian hula, aunty ying tells a story of betrayed love where the goddess pele, goddess fire is betrayed by her lover and a mortal. she turns her lover and the mortal into two halves of a flower, one side that only grows on the mountain, the other that only grows on the beach..its a sad tale that is accentued by the dance.
Regent nods, "Yeah, still got a the deserts.
Izzy watches raptly.
Jace gets drawn into the story, losing touch with whats going on at the table
The power of the dance is clear, but the story ends and out come 5 men face painted doing a samoan slap dance, incredibly interesting all dancing in time, very manly slapping themselves in time with the music some carry spears and Aunty ling tells a story of two tribes warring.
The desserts are served and the smell of apple pie and all kinds of other sweets are omnipresent.
Jace leans over and whispers to Matt, "I didn't know your culture had such stories...you should have told me before, i would have brought a camera, this is amazing"
Regent smiles and pulls his PDA, "fire away."
Regent continues to eat what he took from the first serving.
Izzy tries a bit of everything. Quite a BIT of everything!
Jace takes Regent's PDA and takes his PDA out and sets them to record
Regent grins at Izzy, "Nice..see? That's the way to do it man!"
Izzy nods. "Uh huh. Uh huh. I LIKE it!"
Jace gets full quickly and leans back in his seat to watch the story play out, "That slapping thing is kind of wierd." he sayes quietly to the table
The next group is mixed and Aunty Ying tells of a mating ritual of the Samoans, called Fire dancing, its a throw back to ancient rituals, wherein men showed off their physical prowess by spinning sticks that were on fire, it has really evolved and the men are thowing flaming sticks and spears spinning them and in the near dark, the show is quite amazing, the women dance agressively as well as the dance meets its head.
Regent grins at Jace.."yeah..theres some weirder though."
Jace says, "Wow, thats damn impressive."
Regent nods, "Fricken awesome," he says between bites.
Jace shakes his head, "Man i wish i had something like this to look back too"
Stephie eats only a little as does Jennifer, Xing eats a bit, but all are enjoying the show.
Regent looks at Jace. "What do you mean man?"
Izzy jokes "I've seen faster. Seriously though, great show!"
Jace says, "Just you know, I grew up in america, we dont have crap you know?"
Regent smiles, "This is America man. and its there if you want it."
Jace nods and grins, "Well yea, but it feels like a differant country you know? Magical"
Regent grins.."Yeah man...I know." he seems proud somehow and happy.
Izzy says, "Besides. We got all KINDSA crap! LOTS and LOTS!"
Jace smirks and turns to Izzy, "Why dont you lay that on the table then"
Regent hovers over to the dessert table and gets some pie and some Haupia.
Izzy says, "If you don't think we don't have crap, just check out around down by the clinic. I haven't seen anything crappy like that here!"
Aunty Ying laughs as the fire dancers all hook up with a lady, "Looks like they're going home happy tonight!" out comes some demonic looking men, their face paint looks frightening, and so do the tattoos On thier chests they all carry wicked looking spears "This is a group doing the Maori dances, they were a warlike people off of new zealand, noted to be possibly cannibalistic." The men start dancing the dance warlike and they keep sticking their tongues out and you can see multiple piercings with bone on their tongues.
Izzy says, "Ewwwwwww."
Jace says, "And how is that american custom?"
Izzy says, "Every American city has places like that."
Jace stares directly at the demon man, his eyes locked to face of the mask.
Jace says, "Wow..."
Regent grins.."Yeah, I've seen this before the Maori's were bad ass."
Jace says, "Cannibalistic..."
Izzy thinks . o O (God. I hope he's not gettin' any IDEAS!)
You say, "That's what they say." he grins as he takes a bite from his piece of steak. "mmm...Meat" he jokes. Jen smiles a little at that."
Jace nods slowly to Regent.."meat indeed"
Izzy shakes out of his reverie. "It does a body good?"
Regent grins.."yeah. That's what I say."
The final act is the Tahitian act, a lot of percussion a lot of strings and again women wearing coconut bras and grass skirts, (if you've seen the 5th element, those people that are welcoming bruce Willis and the girl when they get to flotsam paradise..)
The dancers once again come out to the crowd and this time they lead Jace and Matt up to the stage, Aunty Ying says "Thanks for coming folks, still plenty of food, drink and good times so enjoy!" she smiles her grandmotherly smile and leaves the stage.
Izzy pays attention thoughout, but turns to Stephie often, smiling, and squeezes her hand.
Regent actually looks comfortable as he sorta dances with his arms, his timing is ok, he's definitely not a pro, but he's laughing and smiling on stage as he dances.
Izzy applauds wildly.
Stephie doesn't seem to mind the hand squeezing.
Xing looks amused and Jen claps for Matt and Jace.
