The first event in the Best of the Best competition was a resounding success, except for the poor sportsmanship shown by one of the Contestants. Syphon taunted his opponents by waiving his first lifting attempt, refusing to reconsider despite the chorus of Boos from his gathered fans. To make matters worse, instead of accepting the clamor from his fans in good nature and reconsidering, he proceeded to pummel one of the walls of the Colliseum, nearly dislodging a small child hanging from a railing above who had been peering down to catch a glimpse of her idol.

Another surprise was the 'coming out' of Rock Star 'David Ciaratara' of 'No Clue'. Who claimed his superpowers come from his unique genetics and a rigorous training proclaim. However, as he lifted a massive motorcycle over his head with ease, many of his fans couldn't help wondering if his 'training' had been enhanced by the use of illegal chemicals or substances. The stories of David's wild drug-induced romps are all over the music community. Could he have turned to drugs for self-improvement as well? And what side-effects might he be suffering as a result?

Another controversy were the persistent allegations that Random Factor of the Starguard Gamma team had fixed the event. The crowd demanded an investigation into certain 'irregularities' in his performance. However, just as an investigation began, Flare intervened, using her powers to incinerate records of the event. Flare is Random Factor's current 'red hot' love interest known for her fiery temper both while battling supervillains and entertaining in the bedroom. Flare is suspected by some to still be under the legal age of consent - although being a superheroine, that is difficult to determine from the public records. What is clear, however, is that she is half Random Factor's age, leading to the wide-spread speculation of 'cradle robbing'.
