A major disaster was narrowly averted on Monday afternoon of last week when an arson attempt in Greg's General Stores was foiled by local heroes Syphon and Fenrir. In an apparently motiveless attack an assistant librarian employed by the city library stabbed the wife of a storekeeper to death and injured the storekeeper before trying to set a blaze in the basement of the store with gasoline.
Mrs. Janice Sagan, 42, an assistant librarian, was pronounced dead at the scene of the arson attack after Syphon and Fenrir prevented her from igniting ten gallons of gasoline she had spread around the basement. A fire department spokesman praised the heroes for their actions, explaining that, contrary to fire regulations, the partition walls between the store basement and the neighbouring stores were not fireproof. If the gasoline had been ignited, the fire department spokesman confirmed, the entire row of stores and shops would have been engulfed in the flames.
Detective Lewis of the CBPD, who is handling this case, declined to make a statement other than saying that investigations are ongoing.
