(Colonial Bay - 12/8/2054) Locke Circle was the scene of a devestating super-battle yesterday. The Vista Advanced Genomes genetic manufacturing laboratory was attacked by a robot of unknown origin. Local heroes Blitzkrieg and Steel quickly arrived on the scene, as well as the vigilante Eleven.
The robot seemed intent on leaving with two 50 gallon barrels of TriPolyLazurite or TPL, an extremely dangerous mutagen. During the course of the battle a drum of TPL ruptured, but the heroes managed to trigger the facility's neutralizer system. Shortly thereafter a stray shot hit a barrel, triggering a chain of explosions that leveled the building. Fortunately all of the employees had evacuated. During the confusion, the robot managed to escape into the sewers, however it is believed that it did not manage to take any TPL with it.
CBFD Hazzardous Materials teams sealed off the site with containment foam. The plume of smoke that result from the explosion was non-toxic, since any TPL that survived the explosion was mixed with the residue of the neutralizing compound.
<sidebar>What is TriPolyLazurite?
TPL is a highly reactive mutagen. It is used in many genetic manufacturing applications due to its unique ability to quickly produce large numbers of random artifical DNA molecules. that can then be sorted, categorized, and analyzed for useful properties. It is highly combustible. If absorbed through the skin, ingested, or if the fumes are inhaled for too long, the DNA of the person exposed undergoes catastrophic mutations, leading to almost certain death.
The compound was discovered accidentally 10 years ago by Dr. Lazlo Lassiter, who enjoyed a short career as the hero Dr. Lazurus, the Immortal Man, after seemingly becoming immortal upon exposure to TPL. Dr. Lazarus was killed in battle with the notorious supervillain Dr. Jackal, who used TPL-derived powders extensively to make horrific mutants to do his bidding. Dr. Jackal in turn died 2 years ago while fighting heroes in Colonial Bay when he accidentaly exposed himself to his own monster powder.</sidebar>
