The set is dark, but it brightens as the lights turn on and the camera zooms in on Barbara Wawa, standing in front of a giant sign that reads Best of the Best. She turns to the camera and begins to speak:
"Best of the Best has always been a showcase of Colonial Bay's superheroes, but this year's contest promises to be special indeed. To tell us how special, we have a guest: the host of Best of the Best 2058: Sydney Croshere..."
Sydney walks onto the set, the camera zooming out so that Barbara and Sydney are both in the picture. Sydney is a pretty, blonde twenty-something, television actress. She smiles and says, "Thanks Barbara!" before the video switches cameras to show her exclusively. She continues to speak:
"Best of the Best is a grueling contest designed to test the skills of Colonial Bay's Mightiest, and this year is no exception. This year, the event will have three events, based on a traditional notion of what makes superheroes so super. This year, our heroes will have to be: faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! The exact nature of the events will be kept secret until the live broadcast of the show. We do have a surprise treat to tide you over until the big show. We welcome Howl, the reigning champion of Best of the Best."
The video feed goes to split screen, with Sydney in the studio, and Howl standing before a backdrop of the Colonial Bay Skyline.
Sydney: "First of all Howl, how does it feel to be named the champ?"
Howl: "Considering the caliber of the competitors it was an honor to get lucky enough to win."
Sydney: "Are you making any special preparations to defend your crown?"
Howl: "I've had my outfit washed and I've stopped eating anything that I cooked."
Sydney: "Do you have any predictions on the outcome of this year's contest?"
Howl: "It's all up in the air. While we had a good field last year the outcome was in some ways determined by the narrowness of the event and my own dumb luck. Since no one knows what we'll be put through this year I can't comment on that. I also can't comment on who will show up, but I think that Amber, Halcyon, Matthew Regent, Lightray or Silver Spider all have a great shot at it."
The program continues, with highlights from previous contests. When the show goes to a commercial break, Howl appears again, and he says:
"After the live coverage of Best of the Best, tune into Bernie's Sham to get the latest on national and world events."
