Thursday, March 23rd, 2056 - Coliseum:
Barbara Wawa is live at the Coliseum off Route 9 covering the 2nd event of the Best of the Best V. We are shown an unknown team defeating Starguard for the 4th entry into the final event of the day. Barbara Reports:
"It looks like Starguard won't be competing in the final event today. A team called the Shadow Sitters have taken up that spot. So it will be Black Sheep Samaritans, New Blood, Shadow Sitters, and Spirit of Justice!"
The audience is shown the course for the Danger Relay. Each leg is 100 meters. The first track is through a 'fritionless' glass tunnel that discharges electricity. Secondy is a swim through waters infested with mechanical squids. The final leg finds the contestants traveling past a course full of traps.
Before the race starts, the announcer announces that there will be a special speaker. Marianne Bradford, the presidential candidate for the democratic party steps up and offers an inspiring speech. She vows to donate money for every distance the competitors race. After that is done, the teams move to their starting places. It looks like it will be Lorelei for Spirit of Justice, Photon for New Blood, Dancin Coyote for the Black Sheep Samaritans and Rook for the Shadow Sitters.
Photon takes the early lead in the race, followed by Rook, Lorelei and Dancing Coyote. However, after some electrical shocks, Lorelei is further behind. None of the contestants lose their footing as Lorelei is careful on her toes and the rest decide to fly.
Midnight loses the lead as he sinks to the bottom of the pool and must run through that way. Eel is a natural swimmer and takes the the lead as DC passes the baton over. Rook passes the baton to Ebony who sinks into the water and starts stretching across inside the pool to get teh baton to Dark Knight. Lorelei finishes her leg last but seems to have most of the support. Wasp grabs the baton from her quickly dives into the water. Wasp is a jet under the water quickly surpassing Midnight and Ebony. Eel manages to keep the lead as he passes the baton off to Lady Luck.
When Midnight finally passes the baton to Exodus, Lady Luck is far ahead. Black Mamba is slowly leaping away catching up and Dark Knight stumbles into some traps. Lady Luck falters a bit as some gas hits her. We see Exodus soar into the lead and about to win when he is ambushed by a series of deadly traps. The New Blood team member crashes to the ground just meters away from the finish line. He finds himself entangled by some icy bonds. Black Mamba leaps over and helps the hero escape. Lady Luck takes this opportunity to dash across the finish line unconscious as mental beams knock her out. Black Mamba leaps into second, relatively unscathed, and Exodus follows in a close third. Dark Knight recovers from the trap attacks and finishes fourth.
Suddenly Eleven rushes into the stadium and is running towards the fallen Lady Luck! He's shouting something but it's bleeped out from the holovid. It takes a huge amount of security to smother the gunman and take him away.
The awards are given out. BSS gets first place, SoJ second, and New Blood third. Wawa ends the report by saying, "So the total tally is Spirit of Justice with 5 pts, Black Sheep Samaritans and New Blood second with three, and Starguard Gamma with 1 pt. It's still anyone's game! Next week, we'll find out which team is the smartest!"
