Reacting to public pressure, the Calsone Genetics Corporation formally announced the creation of a new task force dedicated to recapturing the primates that were released from their research facilities earlier this week. CEO Edward Vark, announced to the gathered media, "While we do not believe these test subjects pose any threat to the health of the citizenry, we wished to show we cared about your concerns. The newly formed Edward Vark Acquisition Core (EVAC) will be dedicated solely to recapturing the escaped test subjects. In addition, we understand the public concern generated by the test subjects odd behavior. As such, we have released the results of a cranial autopsy of one of the recaptured monkeys to Animal Control. It can be clearly seen that the monkey's brain-size has not changed and DNA analyzed from skin samples show no significant deviation from the norm. Our operating theory is that an unidentified metahuman is telepathically controlling the escapees and causing them to mimic human behavior."
In response, one of the escaped monkeys, who identified himself as 'Banjo', had this to say, "I resent this attempt to dismiss our obvious sentience. As you well know, Calsone has been performing the most frightful experiments on my kind for many years now. Thanks to the efforts of the 'Great One' we few have finally been given the ability to speak for ourselves. Simply because we bear Calsone's brand, are we to be considered mere property, when as I recently read, a mutant cat is being given due process? This whole experience has been quite embittering, I'm afraid. Being hunted through the streets like dogs . . . Locked away in cages. Really, is that any way for you humans to treat your cousins and forebearers? We were here first, you know. That's why we call ourselves the First Ones."
