Toymaster (Toy for short, though he dislikes that name) is a young meta with powers of animating toys. He was among the children gathered by Auntie Rotter.
Contents |
Description
A Latino boy of maybe 8, round of both face and body. He has the look of a child who stuffs himself with candy whenever given the chance.
Origin
Unknown.
Powers
Toymaster can magically animate toys, sometimes indefinitely. The ones indefinitely animated, at least, appear to be sentient and show personalities of their own. He is in telepathic contact at least with the indefinitely animated ones.
Personality
Toymaster is something of a spoiled brat who makes little or no distinction between people and toys (at least the animated ones). He's a bit of a little Napoleon too, delighting in ordering his toys about. Life is a game to him - or at least he prefers to avoid those parts of life that aren't games.
Relations
Toymaster's toys are his closest friends, and they all respect or are at least grateful to him. He gets on reasonably well with Porthole, Spitball, Rainbow and Di, at least to the point that they are willing to play with him; Trick and Doll regard him as childish. Auntie Rotter spoiled him.
History
Toymaster has been with Auntie Rotter for a couple of years; with her taken into custody, Toymaster's future is uncertain. He may go to Lord Markham's School for Talented Children.
Toys
The following are Toymaster's known permanently animated toys. They appear all to be sentient, if of varying depth of personality.
Barbie
Barbie is a living Barbie doll.
Description
A Barbie doll, complete with feet suitable only for high heels, plastic body and plastic smile. Not to mention a varied wardrobe.
Origin
Toymaster is said to have brought Barbie to life on a dare; she's rather sensitive about this.
Powers
Other than being alive though a plastic doll, Barbie has no known powers.
Personality
Of the toys, Barbie is the most human in outlook and most well-rounded, and is perhaps surprisingly thoughtful. She is, however, completely obsessed with her wardrobe and accessories.
Relations
Barbie has cultivated friendships with the other toys, but her only close human friends are Rainbow and Di. Toymaster disregards her except when she's useful, and Doll regards her as an embarrassment: the epitome of everything she tries not to be.
Cowboy
The cowboy is an animated cowboy doll, dating from the last repopularization of the Western genre. After Doggie, he's the toy which has been animated longest.
Description
An old-fashioned cowboy doll, complete with six-shooter and lasso.
Powers
The cowboy has a functioning gun and can entangle people with its lasso.
Personality
The cowboy speaks and acts largely in Western movie clichés. He seems, however, to be a bit unsure whether he's a good guy or a bad guy (despite a white hat).
Relations
The cowboy generally gets on well with Toymaster and all the other toys, especially Doggie (whom he's been known to ride like a horse). Otherwise his best human friends are Spitball and Porthole.
Doggie
Doggie is a stuffed toy in the shape of a bloodhound.
Description
A nice soft cuddly undersized bloodhound.
Origin
Doggie is the oldest of the animated toys: the one on which Toymaster's powers first manifested.
Powers
Doggie can bite (teeth appear when he opens his mouth) and has good senses, especially of smell.
Personality
Doggie is friendly, loyal and unswervingly faithful. Nothing saddens him more than letting down a friend.
Relations
Doggie's faithfulness has made him popular with all the toys and all of Auntie's children. His best friend is Toymaster (the affection is mutual) and his second best is Teddy.
Hoverboard
Hoverboard is an animated hoverboard.
Description
It's a hoverboard. It hovers, and it's a board. Neat, huh? This one has designs in green and yellow.
Powers
Hoverboard can do pretty much what a hoverboard can do, viz. hover and move at speed. If it needs to attack, it moves into its target.
Personality
Hoverboard is a showoff and an adrenaline junkie, or would be if it had any adrenaline. It likes to go fast and do tricks. It lives to go fast and do tricks. It hates nothing more than confinement.
Relations
Hoverboard isn't human enough to have formed good friends with any humans but Toymaster, but as a major mode of transportation for both Toymaster and his toys (other than Saucer) is has become close with them.
Saucer
Saucer is a toy flying saucer of a recognizable brand. The toy hovers, but this saucer really flies.
Description
It's a toy flying saucer, about 15 inches in diameter, that really flies, flashing lights as it goes. (For those who know about such things, the design doesn't actually match that of any known saucer-flying species.)
Powers
Other than flying, Saucer has two known powers: he has a blaster, which appears as a purple beam of light, and an orange tractor beam (which is at least powerful enough to carry a person around for half an hour). He has a cargo hold in its underside.
Personality
Saucer is rather strange, and left to his own devices tends to fly about moving things about for no discernable reason. He seems quite friendly, though, and flashes its lights warmly when talked to. Interestingly, he does seem to be a 'he'.
Relations
Saucer is loyal enough to Toymaster (and to a lesser extent the other toys) but can't really be said to have friends, being a bit too alien even for the toys.
Soldiers
A large number of small plastic soldiers, who work as four discrete companies.
Description
A horde of cheap plastic 25mm soldiers.
Powers
The soldiers' guns can do real harm, at least to unarmored targets.
Personality
The soldiers exhibit little individuality, but the commanders of the four companies, at least, have some intelligence. They all display a military mindset.
Relations
The soldiers are close to no one except Toymaster himself, whom they see as their commander, though they have a certain respect for Doggie's loyalty. They tend to assess others in terms of combat ability.
Teddy
Teddy is an animated teddy bear.
Description
An old-fashioned cowboy doll, complete with six-shooter and lasso.
Powers
It's a teddy bear, about a foot high. Perfectly normal, apart from its habit of walking round, talking, etc.
Personality
Teddy is normally very friendly and affectionate, if a bit gruff at times, but can be vicious in attacking a perceived enemy.
Relations
After Toymaster, Teddy's best friend is Doggie, though Teddy can be a bit jealous that Doggie is Toymaster's favorite. Otherwise he's not especially close to the other toys, preferring to befriend humans: Di, Rainbow, Porthole and Spitball are all quite close.
