Zu
From Champions MUSH
The Zu Nation was created by the international terrorist organization VIPER in 2028, after deposing the government of South Africa.
2028 was a year of change and renewal for VIPER. The once feared and extensive organization was crippled by UNTIL operations and infighting between Nest leaders on what new directions to go; all of the nests resorted to petty thuggery and short term goals.
But one Nest leader had a plan; a vision to create a massive power base for VIPER to function in, without the fear of UNTIL or Interpol apprehending them. A base where these organizations could not touch them. The vision spread to other Nests, and through the vast Serpentine Network, a massive attack was coordinated. In a three pronged attack in Pretoria, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein, South Africa's capital cities, VIPER overwhelmed the unaware country in a bloody coup that lasted one month. With nearly all of VIPER attacking simultaneously in three main forces, and the aid of the oppressed whom VIPER had recruited with promises of a better life should VIPER succeed, the country was easily overtaken.
Smaller VIPER platoons secured the diamond mines as the main armies invaded the capitols and captured the country's heads of state. Under the flag of an equal South Africa, VIPER executed the leaders who did not join their organization, and crowned South Africa the newly created Zu Nation. As its first act as a nation, VIPER proclaimed it would put an end to the Aparteid within its borders and create economic equality within the country if the country would surrender; a good will ploy to keep the United Nations from interfering. This claim also gained VIPER the much needed support of the lower classes in South Africa who suffered from discrimination.
The country's military forces were thrown into disarray and heavily demoralized when their leaders were executed. With VIPER's most advanced developed weapons, it only took a handful of massive military defeats for the unorganized country to surrender to VIPER, before the UN could mobilize its troops.
VIPER, now the Zu itself, kept its promise and began work on South Africa's infrastructure, winning the support of the people now under its reign.
The Zu Nation began by developing the poorer cities and towns within its boundaries until they thrived. The Zu realized the importance of all its citizens, and cultivated every small village alongside the metropolitan areas. It worked to nurture and educate its citizens, with the goal of creating loyal Zu supporters and a dedicated labor force. The ultimate goal of Zu, however, was to become a strongly developed country and make the Zu Nation and attractive country to invest in. It had an accessible coast line and a trade chokehold for boat shipments of goods coming through the Cape of Good Hope. Wealth mined from the diamond mines in South Africa helped paid for the massive domestic developments to improve the quality of life in all parts of the Zu nation.
As the world began to forget the bloody revolution that created the Zu Nation and the nation showed political stability, investors began to sink solid funds into Zu to build factories and sell goods to the attractive and growing market that Zu had.
For all its attempts at legitimacy, the Zu Nation was still scarred by corruption. The members of VIPER who did not join the takeover of South Africa split up into lesser faction groups throughout the world. Some groups still function from within Zu with the government turning a blind eye to illegal activities, as long as they don't interfere with the government's plans. The Zu's inaction on stemming these international activities have made the Zu Nation unpopular. The United States has even accused Zu of harboring and financially supporting these groups and demanded action on Zu's part. In their defense, the Zu Nation claimed that it could no further control these factions than the US could control organized crime. Further diplomatic meetings resulted in the United States not following through with their demands.
